Conference feedback

Hi, thanks for putting this on. I just have one comment- in the "day in the life of a translator" segment, the visual was unclear- like unreadable unclear. I kept changing size of the display expecting it to clear up but it never did. Not sure what the situation was there but it wasn't worth watching what Massimilian was doing if I couldn't see it. Perhaps it had to do with so many people streaming it at once or a crummy connection on my end, not sure. Again, thanks for putting it on.

Thank you for an interesting and imformative event. Enjoyed it and got a lot of good tips for the future.
Thanks again!

I particularly appreciated the last talk about basics of CAT tools for "newcomers".

Time From To Content
15:46 Jun 6, 2014 Henry Dotterer: 1 All You say that In Italy the translation fees are low, but how much is low for you? Could you give examples?
15:46 Jun 6, 2014 Manuela Ribecai: 1214732 All @englishinna Yes, definitively
15:46 Jun 6, 2014 Inna Ivanova: 1321490 All How much more?
15:47 Jun 6, 2014 Henry Dotterer: 1 All of course, edition could be time-consuming!
15:47 Jun 6, 2014 Manuela Ribecai: 1214732 All it depends of the time needed
15:47 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All "Thing is, the agency/client can almost invariably find somebody cheaper..." --> that's what you shouldn't care about, because I think it's often not true. I have had the experience that a client came to me, I said no, and shortly afterwards another client came to me WITH THE SAME TEXT!
15:47 Jun 6, 2014 Barbara Carrara: 934537 All First of, translations here are normally calculated in pages (cartelle). A standard cartella is 1500 keystrokes.
15:48 Jun 6, 2014 Henry Dotterer: 1 All mmmm 1500 keystrokes?
15:48 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All Circa 150 words, I think
15:49 Jun 6, 2014 Inna Ivanova: 1321490 All 1800 characters with spaces is a normal page.
15:49 Jun 6, 2014 Henry Dotterer: 1 All and the minimum tariff for these 150 words?
15:49 Jun 6, 2014 starlightaloud: 1624756 All i think it's more than 150 words
15:49 Jun 6, 2014 Barbara Carrara: 934537 All Yep, chars. Now, for some reason, a publisher's 'cartella' varies between 1800 and 2000 chars. But they tend to pay less.
15:49 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All For a printed paperback I always estimate 250 words/page
15:50 Jun 6, 2014 Manuela Ribecai: 1214732 All Your right Peter
15:50 Jun 6, 2014 Manuela Ribecai: 1214732 All you're*
15:50 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All So, I'm not using a webcam, because I get an "Out of Time" message.
15:51 Jun 6, 2014 Henry Dotterer: 1 All I have seen the cost of living and is not low in Italy
15:51 Jun 6, 2014 Barbara Carrara: 934537 All A cartella would roughtly be 200-220 words.
15:52 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All Short words.
15:52 Jun 6, 2014 Barbara Carrara: 934537 All David: no, it isn't, even in the bundu...
15:52 Jun 6, 2014 Peter Motte: 30753 All Cost of living is difficult to estimate. I have seen the prices in Japan, and I think: it's cheap, over there. But housing seems to be expensive.
15:52 Jun 6, 2014 Inna Ivanova: 1321490 All Words vary in length. That's why using characters with spaces is the best way to norm a page.
15:52 Jun 6, 2014 César Yamandú Sánchez Franco: 35323 All you work in literary translation Barbara?
15:53 Jun 6, 2014 Barbara Carrara: 934537 All César: no, I don't.
