I hope loads of people can come for a Christmas party in Leeds. The lights are all up now and everything is looking festive. The Christmas market is also now open with all kinds of German cheer and I thought it'd be the ideal location for all us polyglots to meet!
I was thinking we could maybe have dinner in the "Party Tent". They have two set menus at £10.50 or £12 and the staff seem really friendly.
The more the merrier so bring partners and friends but please let me know numbers in advance so I can make sure the tables are booked!
‘Christkindelmarkt’ is one of the largest and most established German Christmas markets in the UK, with traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, Christmas carousel rides and twinkling colourful lights all creating a unique continental style festive atmosphere in the heart of the city centre on Millennium Square.
First established in 2002 ‘Christkindelmarkt’ attracts many hundred thousands of visitors to Leeds city centre each year and forms an integral part of the city’s annual events programme.
The market consists of over 30 wooden chalet stalls from authentic German traders providing a wide range of seasonal gift ideas for all the family including; handcrafted toys, jewellery, Christmas cards and festive decorations, speciality foods and traditional German delicacies such as Gluhwein, Bratwurst sausages, soups, stollen, gingerbread and candied fruits.
To compliment the market stalls and enhance the overall visitor experience at the event, a festive funfair provides traditional Christmas carousel rides, a large scale dodgems, children's funhouse and convoy rides for all the family.
Frankfurter Scheune - Christmas Party tent
First introduced in 2005 and acting as the centrepiece of the market is the popular (and newly named) 'Frankfurter Scheune' - a 25m x 15m structure providing an authentic bierkeller experience with real German bier, musical entertainment and specialist Christmas food menu.
Open daily between 10.30am to 11pm (8pm on Sundays), this is the ideal venue for office and Christmas parties. The structure has individual seating areas available for groups of 10 or more people and for larger reservations it is possible to combine several areas.
Christmas set menus:
Option 1.
Soup of the day (choice available)
½ duck with potato dumplings and red cabbage
Dessert: gateau or apple strudel with ice cream
Option 2.
Soup of the day (choice available)
Game ragout with cranberries, red cabbage and white bread dumplings
Dessert: gateau or apple strudel with ice cream
I thought it would be nice to have a Chrsitmas get together in Leeds. The German Christmas market should be on providing a perfect opportunity to indulge in gluhwein, vin chaud, vino caldo, vino caliente or whatever it is called in your language of choice
If you ever get together at Christmas or in the summer, I can pop across from my parents' in York, but the rest of the year I'm in Barcelona. Would be great to meet some translators from "back home" at some point. Hopefully some other time we can meet up.
I live just up the road in Harrogate and I have never been to a ProZ powwow before. Count me in! Wheereabouts in Leeds is the Christmas market held? Is it far from the station?

I'm an idiot

Would it be possible to move this to another weekend in December? I completely forgot that we are going to the in-laws that weekend. That's what happens when I don't put things in the diary...!

How about midweek?
Nov 3, 2006
I just realised that I was looking at November 2nd instead of December so thought it was on a Thursday. I actually thought Thursday was a good day for an evening event. I think if you move it to another weekend nearer Christmas that it will clash with some people's other plans, but I don't mind personally.

At the moment I think I'm ok for any weekend in December, but I agree that midweek might suit people better as it gets towards Christmas. I'm pretty flexible though.

Mid-week date?
Nov 7, 2006
Hi,
I think Steve's suggestion to move it to midweek is a good one. It saves wasting all those precious christmas shopping and socialising weekends (!) How about the 7th December? I don't want to arrange a date that anyone who is already interested can't make!

I'm OK for the 7th too. Could make it during day but evening is probably better.
