Hola,
Muchas gracias!

Municipality of Santiago
That's how I would translate it.

: So would I. "Ilustre" is purely formulaic and quite alien to English.

Thanks Charles. I would never translate it.

: Right. There's nothing remotely 'illustrious' about the "ilustre municipalidad" of the Chilean town I live in.

LOL. I've been there for a day. I liked what I saw. Thanks anyway.

: I agree and even though so many" illustrious" places are not I always feel something is lost by being practical

: I'm not disagreeing but frankly proz references are no authority. In my field half of them I have seen are just plain wrong.

: It was a very poor answer first time around; it doesn't help to repeat it and risk getting it into the glossary a second time.

I would love to put it this

Santiago City Hall
Depending on the context (and Asker has provided none, except that it refers to Chile), it is sometimes better to translate "Ilustre Municipalidad de XYZ" as "XYZ City/Town Hall", in much the same way as in English we refer to 'Downing Street' or 'The White House'.
An example in a tourism context:
Attractions in SANTIAGO DE CHILE - [ Traducir esta página ]It is surrounded by the Cathedral, the Audiencia Real (Royal Court), the Central Post Office -formerly the conqueror's house- and Santiago's City Hall. ...

: and have you noticed something? most of the contributors to that entry were not native English speakers; fact is simply this - we don't use fanciful names like this in English - a person can be "honourable" not a city
