Dies war wohl nicht seine erste Montagereise - bislang haben, laut Aussage des Kunden, die beigefügten Unterlagen für die Einreise in die USA immer gereicht.

Business trip /trip on company business
Presumably the person concerned is being sent by his company to install something at their client company. I don't think "installation trip" sounds at all natural in English. At immigration, when asked the purpose of his visit, he would no doubt reply "I'm here on business, to install a system" or words to that effect. I don't think the "Montage" part of it is important here.

: "Montage" is a distinction Germans make - it's a trip undertaken by construction/engineering workers whereas adminstrative staff and management go on a "Geschäftsreise". I don't think there is a corresponding term in English so I'd use business trip

installation trip / organisational trip
depending on the trips: maybe he/she came in the USA on duty, having to organise a factory, business, machine; or to organise an official trip of a politician or so, or to organise and prepare a traval packet.

: it cannot be "organisational trip" - a "Montagereise" is usually used for people who work e.g. in engineering building bridges abroad or something like this, but NEVER for administrative staff, they go on a "Geschäftsreise"

This wasn't his first time travelling to do installations
Or something like this. I have never been able to find a succinct description for "auf Montagereise".
