German term

Gesellschafterstände

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general) Stockholders of a company
Ausufernde Gesellschafterstände and damit zusammenhängende Interessenkonflikte können Familienunternehmen lähmen.

Would this mean a very large number of stockholders (from within the family)?

Stockholder as you suggest, sharegolder is correct, too.

US English Thank you, philgoddard. So stockholders for US English, correct?

shareholders

Having too many shareholders can create conflicts of interest. Ausufernd literally means overflowing; Stände means numbers here.

partner/associate stakeholdings

First of all: the German word, according to Duden, does not exist.
'Gesellschfter' in a company is either a 'partner' or an 'associate' and the have objectives - 'stakeholdings'
derived from Leo
