French term

toux est peu efficace

French to English Medical Medical (general) Pulmonology
Hi,

I am translating a pulmonology report. THe patient is a child with familial dysautonomia.

Under the "cough" heading I have the following sentence: "durant les IVRS, la toux est peu efficace."

Does that mean that it doesn't help to cough during URTI episodes?

Thanks

Joanna

Sorry to disagree with this but a dry cough is one where there is no phlegm to expectorate. This is clearly another case in which there is phlegm but coughing does not allow expectoration or "production". And BTW I mentioned ineffective cough in my answer.

Honorary points for dwt2 for being the first to answer (correctly) :-))

Yes, coughing is ineffective

cough is inefficient

Coughing is usually described as efficient or inefficient.
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Or ineffective, ie it doesn't clear the mucus.
