English term

LD

English to Spanish Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering Mining
Not having a clear view of what is happening around him can result in sometimes deadly accidents. A mining truck, for example is such a huge vehicle that if the driver cannot see a normal LD/ parked in front or behind him, he may accidently drive right over it. Because the vehicle is so large and the terrain is often rough he may not be aware he ran over an obstacle and will simply continue to travel. Accidents of this nature are a regular occurrence since people do not always realize the danger of being close to one of these vehicles.” Eddiie Smith further explains.

light-duty vehicle / vehículo de servicio liviano

Might be a bit of an assumption, but it makes sense according to context
Note from asker:
There's also the acronym LDH. LDH stands for Load, Dump, Haul. I found that term further in the text I am translating, and it got me wondering if LD stands for Load and Haul, and not Light Duty. What do you think?
Peer comment(s):

agree Jennifer Levey : LD --> LDV, as defined here: transportpolicy.net/index.php?title=US:_Vehicle_Definitions . A passenger vehicle, as distinct from a LUV (light utility vehicle), although either would be at risk if parked in front of a 100-ton tipper truck.
