Policewoman assaulted after offering lift home

A female police officer was assaulted by a couple after offering them a lift home when the taxi they were in was stopped at an Auckland checkpoint, police say.

The couple were going to climb barriers on to the motorway and walk home, rather than wait as their taxi was checked, Auckland city road policing manager Inspector Heather Wells said.


They were stopped by police and taken back to the motorway safety shoulder. A police officer then offered to drop the couple home, as they lived nearby.
