: Secondo me va bene e parla del primo rum prodotto con canna da zucchero tostata diversamente dai metodi tradizionali dove si usa il succo della canna da zucchero o la melassa (metodo agricolo e/o industriale). Forse il contesto può aiutarti.

E'possibile che si riferisca ad un tipo particolare di canna da zucchero, magari quella più scura?

They roast the sugarcane and then use the juice of the (roasted) sugarcane to make the rum. Rum is made from sugarcane and other ingredients. HTH.

: As far I know the sugarcane is not roasted but pressed and squeezed to obtain the juice. In fact it seems that it is roasted before squeezing, but the right word is tostatura. Arrosto means roast (e.g. roast meat/roast chicken).

I think that, in this case, the sugarcane IS roasted (a little) and then pressed and squeezed for its juice. Feel free to enlighten me on alternate meanings of 'arrosto' and welcome to ProZ.
