La Vicia faba si distingue in fava grossa (maior), favino (minor) e fava cavallina o favetta (equina e paucijuga). Sono colture annuali, tipiche degli ambienti meridionali, che nel passato avevano un ruolo preminente nel ripristino-mantenimento della sostanza organica nel terreno.

ci sono alcune discordanze, alcuni siti indicano i field bean semplicemente come \"vicia faba\" senza specificare il minor e in questo modo diventano sinonimi di fava o favetta
il sito della fao addiritura indica un nome latino completamente diverso, ma per me è un errore

: Si chiamano proprio "favini" e sono di tanti colori, ma cmq hanno la forma dei fagioli classici, niente a che vedere coi fagiolini che sono lunghi e verdi.
