Chinese term

降低计划

Chinese to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
降低计划 and 减少计划 appear a few times in my document (employee survey responses). Some examples are:

降低计划、提高薪金,饭菜质量好一些
减少计划、多点福利

Discussion

Denyce Seow (asker) Nov 22, 2008:
Target - It should be talking about targets. Respondents belong to a sales team.
keepdancing Nov 17, 2008:
lower targets (?) The projected targets are set too high and need to be lowered to be more realistic. This is probablly what is meant by the author. As a translator, we should often point out to the client the errors of the original texts and ask for clarification before proceeding to the translation. If the errors are made purposefully, then the translation should be faithful enough to reflect those errors. We should live in the ground reality that many people may not have sufficient proficiency even in the mother tongue.

又現實 If orientalhorizon is right, and your sample is large enough, there should be other entries along the lines of 降低目标 , 减少指标 , or 目标/指标低一些.
Prudence Miller Nov 13, 2008:
Hard to translate b/c out of context It's necessary to know something about this survey to be able to translate the term appropriately. I assume they are trying to check employee satisfaction but what do the employees do? I can only guess it means "lower targets or objectives," meaning the targets that employees are expected to achieve.
orientalhorizon Nov 13, 2008:
现实 虽然听着不太地道,但现实中,这种说法是很普遍的。起码在开会时,我就听到过很多人这样说,或者经常听到有人这样说。其实,说的就是目标或指标定的太高,执行部门或人员觉得无法完成,要求降低一下。

只许州官放火,不许百姓点灯 想想看,如果我们把这样的译文交给客户,什么结果?
Yurek Nov 12, 2008:
more context?
Adsion Liu Nov 12, 2008:
not logic 降低计划、提高薪金,饭菜质量好一些
减少计划、多点福利

这样罗列词组,让人费解,不是吗?关键是这些文字中看不出到底是要降低什么.计划本身是不能降低的,估计会是降低指标或成本什么的.但无具体语境无法下笔.

这家单位是做什么行业的,也许是lower the business/sales target?
orientalhorizon Nov 12, 2008:
听起来是说定得指标过高,实际就是target太高,不易完成。
Denyce Seow (asker) Nov 12, 2008:
Another: 生产计划太高 计划 = targets????
Denyce Seow (asker) Nov 12, 2008:
Just saw this: 计划太高,连吃饭的时间都在干计划。
What do they mean by '计划'?????

Proposed translations

29 mins

lower the performance goal?

所谓计划是否指绩效指标?
Something went wrong...
2 days 16 hrs

lower goals/reduce the required amount of work

这个计划可能是指“按要求必须完成的工作量”,所以才出现“连吃饭的时间都在干计划”

so it could mean "lower (production) goals" for a team or the entire entity,

or "reduce the required amount of work" per worker,

depending on the context.
