We were strictly brought up. And when you are kept too tight, then you spring an awful long way when you go.
We have all sprung out and now we are coiling back aghain. In fact, you are looking for the centre again as you get older and you get your own children.

It means to look to your roots, your ground base, your foundation. Many people settle down and return to the way they were raised when they have their own children. When people have children, they want to give them the values and upbringing that they had, (generally speaking, not everyone of course). Parents want to give their children a sense of belonging to somehing, a founding family.
