back on chords

Non-PRO English Other
Later in the studio, when they would actually started recording, sometimes they had to cut, cut, cut becasue JOhn was back on banjo chords. My mother must have taught him well.

Does it mean there were seveal takes because he was not pleased with his playing banjo?

still playing banjo chords

John learnt guitar from his mother, and this was based on banjo chords rather than guitar chords, so his playing was substandard - particular in the eyes of Paul and George. This sentence means that he had reverted to banjo-style chords.

In case it isn\'t clear, guitars have more strings than banjos, so the fingering is different.

If you look on the Net, you\'ll find lots of references to John\'s banjo-style guitar-playing. Still think he had the best voice of the four of them, though ...

agree Rowan Morrell : Sounds good (better than Lennon's guitar-playing, probably!)
