English term

kick the hell out of him

Non-PRO English Other
Ivan was a character. We did anything for a laugh. Do anything you know. Liven the place up. Go to the cinema and let us liven it up. Lennon would be rolling on the floor and be kicking the hell out of him, you know, begging him to stop.

???

note 1 I understand that Lennon would be rolling on the floor, and that the other guy would pretend to kick him and Lennon would beg him to stop right?

Lennon kicks Ivan

I understand that Lennon would be rolling on the floor (with laughter? out of frustration, because he wants to get back to the studio and record? etc.) and kicking Ivan in an attempt to get Ivan to stop (whatever he was doing).

kick the hell out of him

It's an expression that means to kick someone really hard, repeatedly. The use of hell in phrases like this means "extremely". To kick someone to the extreme...

kick someone hard

Lennon is rolling on the floor from laughter (this is probably in the figurative sense), and kicking Ivan to make him stop his antics (this is probably literal)

"kicking the hell out of someone" means kicking someone hard. I am guessing Lennon is laughing so much it hurts, and wants Ivan to stop.

hitting really hard in all places (not only kicking)

although the word is stark clear, in this phrase kicking means generally hitting.

Synonym: I'm going to beat the hell out of you; I'm going to beat you real hard and all over

probably a figure of speech

you don`t need to kick some one to kick the hell out of him. It can also mean something shocking or upsetting. Or some fooling around that can become physical and librating. Jack-ass style.

with the stress on \"cinema\" on comment on sarahl. How much can you be sure of. That`s also why she asks the question in the first place, not?

beat him up

that's basically the meaning here.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Alwin27 : Basically? It`s NOT apparent what happened out there in the cinema. It`s not even sure whether Lennon was rolling on the floor of the cinema. It`s just an assumption.
