Spanish term

mantenga viva la memoria (see my translation)

Spanish to English Social Sciences General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hola

"This new enviroment will make him/her become culturally rich, since on our side we will do everything possible so that he/she can keep alive any memories, customs and identity of his/her origin".

Gracias !

Bubo Coroman (X) Apr 21, 2009:
in this case is the "origen" international? Nepal, China...?
Silvia Killian Özler Apr 21, 2009:
the memories I think the original is fine, I would just change the word "any" for "the".

so that he/she may keep the memories, the customs and the identity associated with his/her origins a

A suggestion...
This new home enviroment will enrich him/her in cultural terms as, for our part, we will do everything that is necessary so that he/she may keep the memories, the customs and the identity associated with his/her origins alive.

everything necessary to keep the memory of the land of her birth and its customs and identity alive

it's actually "keep alive" as you put, I've just separated these two words.

The reason I put "her" rather than "his/her" is that some modern authors alternate between the masculine pronouns (he, him, his) and the feminine ones (she, her) throughout the text, to achieve gender balance without having always to put the pronoun of both sexes.

I assume this is an international adoption (Nepal, China?)

La frase completa sería "...we will do everything possible to keep alive the memory, the customs and the identity of his origin (o tal vez 'origins') "

Algunos ejemplos:

"The story of Johnny Appleseed is retold to keep alive the memory of this pioneer and his work ... "

"... they keep alive the memory of a time that many fear will be lost when the last survivors of the era die. ... "

"Its purpose is principally historical, also to keep alive the memory of the Civil war, ... "

" ... the architecture and monuments in its villages and cities which keep alive the memory of a past of great splendour. "

"The purpose of this documentary is to keep alive the memory of the fate suffered by these women ... "

etc.

espero que te ayude
