German term

Bestreifung

German to English Tech/Engineering Human Resources
Revierwachdienst

My guess is that this is a typo, but I can't tell what it should be...

patroling

Streife = patrol.

"Their citizen patrol program is an extension of the department's Volunteers in Police Service program which already has volunteers assisting at public events, helping maintain the fleet of patrol cars, and staffing an information booth at the station. The department's citizen patrol volunteers can be seen patroling the streets, in recycled police cruisers, acting as extra eyes and ears for the department. "

"Throughout the day, CSOs patrol the campus and Isla Vista communities fulfilling various duties that help encourage public safety. Bicycle duty is a major part of the Community Service Organization. It is comprised of bicycle education, tagging, moving, and impounding bicycles. CSOs are constantly riding, as well as walking the campus to maintain visibility and to educate"

agree Steffen Walter : For an alternative def. of Streifenwagen, see http://www.klein-aber-fein.de/bildarchiv/1982-08-14/page-000... :-) / Ja, der natürlich auch. Habe in Berlin auch schon einen ehem. Polizei-Passat mit Zebralook und "Streifenwagen"-Aufschrift gesehen :-))

Hehe! Sagenhaft. Und ich dachte, Prof. Grzimek's Jeep mit dem Zebramuster wäre einer. Danke, Steffen! :-)))

surveillance

(lose) suveillance and inspection/examination - going with the context provided. Note that I add "lose" (or you could also go with "random") because Bestreifung suggests an occasional activity or a peripheral one, not very regular investigation/watch-dogging
Peer comment(s):

neutral Kim Metzger : Did you mean loose surveillance? But bestreifen is to patrol. Surveillance is close observation. To lose - verlieren; loose - locker https://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/lose.html
