Yes, and there’s worse Oct 4

I have made the mistake to lower my prices in the past. Once you do it, they will keep coming back and asking for more. It is a downward spiral. It never ends up in a good relationship. You will feel undervalued, work more to maybe make the same, maybe less... I came to this tread because a client asked me to reduce my min. charge in half. I have already given them a min. charge significantly lower than my usual one. And I only get minimum charge requests from them, mostly revisions. If I accept, I will have to do twice as many of these pesky tasks to make the same amount I am making now. So I said No. I am happy about it.

There are even worse clients.

Last month, I had to ditch a client with a steady stream of projects because of their sneaky and terrible behavior. At the beginning, I had to train them (not tell them) into the fact I don’t do revisions. How? After we agreed and they acknowledged the fact I don’t do revisions, they kept coming back with revision project offers (totally ignoring what we had agreed on before), so I had to remind them (for the 100th time) I don’t do revisions, and then they would change it to “translation task”. Each time, they would create a PO with a lower rate than my normal rate we agreed on (by 1 cent, but it happened repeatedly). It didn’t happen once, it happened at least 5 times. Then I had to remind them (for the 100th time) what my real rate was, and they would edit it. Then I said bye.

Increasing rates Oct 4

I personally like the drama of saying to a client, "hey, I'm actually going to increase my rate" and imagining the PM's face, but I don't think it's a good idea. If you're snarky, they'll never come back. Better just to say no.

Move to an expensive country so you can increase your rates.

Expensive countries Oct 6

The agencies in the expensive countries prefer to pay as little as possible, due to their own costs of running their office being expensive.

Rates and inflation... Oct 10

It seems you have already made up your mind about your situation with this particular client. In the end, and we had this thousands of times in this discussion forum before, I believe, you need to accept and be comfortable with a rate with which you can maintain your life(style). Nobody can tell you what that rate is in the end...

With respect to inflation... Well, without losing too many words about it.

Inflation --> Financial Stability Board

You may find out that there will always be inflation.

I wish everybody a happy day!
