Am I the only one having trouble with version 11? After I installed it, memoQ now keeps shutting down after about a minute, also if I open the previous version, 10.6. I tried to downgrade my v10 to 10.5, but that didn't help. I have opened a critical support ticket.

Even IT experts from one of my employers don't know how to resolve this issue. It's extremely annoying.

10.4.12 Jun 20

After a lot of talking to memoQ support yesterday, I found out that 10.4.12 is the newest version that doesn't crash within one minute.

The Event Viewer identified that some error related to .NET Framework occurs. The event log has been sent to the developers as an urgent case.

You can downgrade to 10.4.12 at https://www.memoq.com/downloads .

If it still doesn't work, uninstall all memoQ versions completely (Control Panel > Programs and Features – this does not delete any settings, projects, configurations or other user data), and manually delete any C:\Program Files\memoQ\memoQ-{version} folders left to clean up, then install 10.4.12. Then it should work.

Anything above 10.4.12 is unreliable for the time being.

That's why I wait... Jun 20

From the time I used version 9.4 to version 10.6, only one, I think version 10.4, presented problems. After speaking with Kilgray's tech support, I went back a version, then waited for 10.5. No problems. I haven't installed version 11.0 because its incremental features aren't what I'm after.

This I recommend:

1. Uninstall the crashing version of memoQ
2. Restart your Windows 10/11 PC
3. Install the never-crashed-kept-me-sane memoQ version

One of memoQ's best features in the last 12-18 months has been the backup/restore utility. It has saved me hours of aggravation and rebuilding projects.

Restarting Windows doesn't help any more than saying a prayer in this case. This can be skipped.

Backing up a project has no relation to the crashing v10.5+.

Administrator mode Jun 20

memoQ support suggested that I start it in admin. mode, which I did, and it did not crash. After that, I could open it normally, and it still didn't crash.

Does that fix it for others?

They also told me the following, but I already had it installed:

Just to be sure: does this refer to version 11? So it's safe now?

Yes. After starting once in administrator mode, it has worked flawlessly* in normal mode ever since.

* Except for the usual pile of various bugs, but they don't crash the software and are not limited to version 11.

Transition Jul 5

Thanks for your kind confirmation, Thomas.

I have memoQ 10.6.12 installed on a VM running Win 11. I installed it because I wanted to be able to download server projects.

What is the best way to migrate to version 11 while removing older versions to keep the VM as small as possible?

I haven't adapted any settings, nor have I created any TMs or termbases ...

memoQ installationens are fairly simple. You just execute the downloaded installer and reply to a couple of questions.

Once you have ensured that it works, you can go into the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall the older version(s). You can always easily download and reinstall them if needed.

None of this interferes with your projects or resources such as TBs and TMs, which remain available also if you swap back and forth between two or more installed memoQ versions.

You could also uninstall the older version(s) before installing the new one if you prefer. This does not delete any user data such as settings and configurations.
