Summary:This webinar is for both agencies and freelancers! Learn how you can manage your payments on either end of the transaction so that you keep the most amount of money in your own pocket, rather than losing money to fees and other hidden costs.
Description
There are many options available to translators and agencies by which we can receive or make payments for services. This webinar addresses using payment methods to your advantage to keep the most amount of money in your pocket, rather than losing it to fees or exchange rates. We will cover the pros and cons of payment by check, direct deposit, wire transfer, credit card, prepaid bank card, PayPal/Moneybookers, as well as companies like Travelex and AMEX that facilitate currency exchange for those of us with international clients or vendors, as well as other related payment issues.
Target audience
• Agencies who pay vendors in or outside the country where they are located.
• Freelancers who receive payments from clients in or outside the country where they are located.
• Freelancers or agencies who are tired of losing money when paying across international boundaries.
Learning objectives
• Attendees will learn the pros and cons of at least 7 (legitimate) payment methods.
• Attendees will receive information that will help them assess which payment methods are most beneficial for their particular situation.
• Attendees will walk away with ideas about how to minimize the “cost of business” where sending or receiving payments is concerned.
Prerequisites
It will be helpful if attendees review their current payment methods (for sending and/or receiving payments) before the webinar.

HI, Susanna, sorry the title wasn't clear. What I meant was, first, learn how to use international payment methods to your advantage, (get the best exchange rates and pay less fees), while keeping more of the money you have earned. So, more money, and less or no fees. We will look look at several different options, and their pros and cons.

Thanks!
Eve

Slides available?Feb 10, 2011

I would like to attend this webinar but know already that I would miss 20 minutes of it (because of the so-called "school run") - would it be possible to have a copy of the slides? Or should I wait for it to be staged at another time when I can be there for the whole of the webinar?

Hello, Juliette, it really applies to anyone who deals with international payments, whether you are in Europe or the US. I mainly discuss Europe and the US, but anyone trying to get payments internationally (Europe Asia, US Asia, or Europe Asia, and including South America, etc.) will benefit. I talk about various ways to facilitate international payments, and most options will be available in most regions of the world. In any csae, you will see that there are many more options outside the normal payment methods that we all know about (paypal, moneybookers, wires, etc.). Hope to see you there!

I think if you pay for the webinar, you can watch it later as a recording as well. However, I am not sure. ProZ staff, could you please confirm that?

I will also give out handouts that include the bullet points from the slides.

Hope to see you there!

Thanks!
Eve

Hi Eve,

I'm afraid I wasn't clear in my posting - I understand the purpose of the webinar, I was querying the use of 'less' with 'fees' and suggesting an alternative. Fewer fees perhaps?

Sorry about that.
