A scientist myself, I work, think and translate as a scientist. I understand the contents, the scientific outbreak and am familiar with the French (and other) public and private reasearch and medical institutions and with their requirements and functioning modalities. (I have myself been the author of scientific documents.) I work with accuracy and dedication, I am meticulous and detail oriented - professional deformation, I guess - and conscientiously meet deadlines.

About me:
I was born and grown up in Italy mainly, with parentheses in Switzerland and the U.S. I spoke different languages at home, according to the person who was addressing me, but the "official" language was French and I attended the French school in Rome. I pursued my higher education at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) from which I hold a Bachelor of Sciences in Biochemisty, then decided to move back to Europe and settled in Paris - my intention was to live in Paris for 2 years, the time to get my Master's degree, but life had it differently. I completed my B.Sc. with a DEA (Master's degree) followed by a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Paris VII in conjunction with the Pasteur Institute in Paris (my thesis focused on HIV infection, AIDS pathogenesis and innate immunity). At some point I swinged to scientific writing with a DESS (Technical Master's degree) in Scientific, Technical and Medical Communication and Writing, from the University of Paris VII, and have written journalist articles for Sciences et Avenir, AFP...

I am a native French speaker, am fluent in English and Italian, speak some Spanish and German, and have started attending evening Hebrew classes.

I have started doing translation work in September 2002, during that floating period at the end of my PhD thesis and before entering one or another research institution. It was by mere chance, upon the request of some of my collegues, and I have followed that path since. Today, I work as a free-lance translator in parallel to my research activity at the INSERM in Paris, where I deal with HIV infection and viral resistance to combination therapy.

Although I have done some translating and proofreading in English, I presently much more strictly apply the golden rule of translating only into my native language and work from English and Italian into French.

Present and ongoing projects:
I am progressively sliding towards becoming a full-time free-lance translator, widening my fields of knowledge and experience, collaborating more with agencies, and more actively partaking to community life, network and occasionally events.

Past Work:
I have translated documents for such institutions as the Pasteur Institute, the CNRS, the University of Milan, and private costumers, from English to French and from Italian to French.

I have translated a variety of documents and files, long and short (instruction slips, PhD and Master's theses, articles, reviews, reports, PPT presentations, grant applications, Excel files and graphs, Web sites, letters, application forms, cv....

Equipment:
