Source text - English Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is recognized as crucial regulator and effector in the process of mounting innate and adaptive immune responses against pathogens by regulating cell death and survival (Luca et al., 2000; Locksley et al., 2001). TNF-α has been found to be a pleiotropic agent produced mostly by activated macrophages and monocytes, and also by many other cell types including B lymphocytes, T lymphocytes and fibroblasts (McEwan, 2002). TNF-α is a type II transmembrane glycoprotein that signals via its cognate receptors, TNFR1 (p55) and TNFR2 (p75).
