Un tipo guapo escribió “On the Road”. Me parece injusto de muchas formas.

The luck of the ugly
1.I wonder if there is any relationship between the way people write and how they look in pictures. I've been staring at an image of Jack Kerouac trying to solve this mystery.
I try not to blink, wondering if it's possible to tell by the wrinkles in his forehead that he is the author of “On The Road”. The first thing that comes to my mind: he looks like Chuck Palahniuk. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say it the other way around. Palahniuk looks like Kerouac. The second thing that comes to my mind: Kerouac was handsome. A handsome guy wrote “On the Road”. I think it's unfair in many ways.
2. If a woman says that she doesn't think Kerouac is handsome, she's probably lying. If a man says he’s not handsome, he is most likely jealous.
3. Now everyone is a writer. We write on our blogs, on Facebook, on Twitter. Whoever hasn’t spent 10 minutes selecting their profile picture may throw the first stone.
I wish I combed my hair in that picture. I wish my face didn’t look puffy in that one. After several unsuccessful attempts of hiding the double chin from the webcam, it's time to take radical actions. Like putting a picture of our dog. Or maybe, a picture of Kerouac. If it worked for him, why wouldn't it work for us?
4. Reading is a way to interact. We like to interact with attractive people. Fantasize about them. We want to have their children and we also want to read them. We are interested in reading ugly people too, but we want to read them a little less, in books, academic documents or on Twitter.
5. The mystery of handsome writers: no matter how many interviews or profiles you read, they never mention their good looks. They let images tell everything. For female writers, this is not the case. The angle is always: look; not only is she pretty, she can write too. Sometimes it’s true, but sometimes she is only pretty. Handsome writers may be bad writers, but we must read for ourselves to become informed.
6. A girl once told me that she liked men for their intellect, but she only liked me for my good looks. Then she got herself a new pair of glasses. She doesn't like Jack Kerouac either.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Capabilities of the Norwegian oil and gas industries. How can we increase cooperation between Mexico and Norway
Your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen.
It is a great honour for me to make a speech in this meeting which deals with important subjects for our two countries, namely the oil and gas sector and cooperation between Mexico and Norway in this field.
Both Mexico and Norway have roles to play on the global energy scene. According to IEA the demand for energy will increase by more than 50% from 2005 to 2030. Fossil fuels will continue to dominate energy supplies, meeting more than 80% of the projected increase in primary energy demand. Efficient production and use of energy is a prerequisite for fostering economic growth. The main theme today is related to how oil and gas resources best can be developed.
In my view the importance of cooperation is increasing due to the fact that most of the easiest available offshore oil and gas reserves in the world have already been found or extracted. The remaining oil and gas resources may be harder to find and will typically be small or located in deep and ultra deep water or in rough climate. For oil and gas fields in production the challenge is to develop technology that increases the recovery rate in each field.
Few companies can state that they alone are experts in all these areas, and none can state that they have nothing to learn from others. Cooperation on research, technology, know-how and experiences will lead to increased efficiency in extracting oil and gas. I think both cooperation and competition are necessary to cope with future challenges in exploration and production of oil and gas.
I would like to start with a few words about Norway as an energy producer. Although we are a small nation in terms of population, Norway was in 2006 ranked as the 5th largest exporter of oil and produced about 2.8 billion barrels a day of oil and NGL’s. Further, the Norwegian gas export exceeded 85 bcm (3 TCF) in 2006 and Norwegian gas cover 15% of the European Unions gas consumption.
However this has not come about by itself. Since we started the oil and gas activities about 40 years ago the Norwegian petroleum industry, in partnership with foreign companies, has step by step acquired the necessary technology and competence to meet the challenges on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Translation - Spanish Discurso pronunciado por Odd Roger Enoksen, Ministro del Petróleo y Energía en la Reunión México - Noruega sobre la Cooperación en el Sector de Energía
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Article and Interview
The perfection and extreme beauty of Chen Man's images are inspiring. At the beginning of the century she began to create beautiful images by combining photography with 3D design. The results were astonishing, and now she is now the most commercially successful photographer in China, executing different marketing campaigns every year. On top of that, her personal work has traveled around the world and is becoming a necessary reference to other photographers.
The young author belongs to a generation that saw china becoming one of the top economies in the world.
With each of her images she questions the growth and materialistic influence of the occident to her country, after China left communism. The consequences of her surroundings and the way of living are reflected in her extraordinary images.
1. When was the first time you were aware of the power of your visual language to provoke or attract the spectator?
I am a very sensitive person, and am especially interested in anything that has to do with life; I think that's a part of human nature. In my opinion, visual language is a direct and international languaje that does not require any interpretation. Take for example, the Sun: it doesn't matter if someone is oriental or occidental we all have the same feelings towards it.
2. What kind of stimulus or education does is most important for a visual creator?
A good visual artist must have a sensitive heart in order to express love.
3. Is the role of your imagery relevant in today's society?
Yes, definitely. The images that I present refer to the youth of China, especially after the economic reform, including the way they dress. I identify my generation, as the one who witnessed the material dream become a reality. Therefore these images include the three great achievements of our generation: the new CCTV building, the Three Throat dam and the Chinese Program of Lunar Exploration: Chang'e. These three achievements where developed under the influence of materialism and occidental technology.

Diatribe
Our Poorly Enlightened Condition
(with an aftertaste of hope)
Most likely, the majority of things we think about during our lives are stupid and irrelevant. Look at it this way: we spend most of our time taking out the trash, using the toilet, paying debts, wandering around social networks, searching for love or screwing up the love we already have, tolerating traffic jams, dealing with idiots in our immediate surroundings, talking about trivial events, earning the bread and entertaining ourselves with what other people have done, for a few common examples. Even people who professionally generate ideas (whether it be in the science field or the arts) too have the same problems, and experience in the same way: an existence in which the mediocrity of everyday life is present in every moment. Generally, when artists and scientists are working, they tend to spend much of their time frustrated, throwing darts, solving crossword puzzles, filling out forms for scholarships, or fulfilling bureaucratic formalities that must satisfy the institution that funds them.
Truthfully it doesn't matter if one is a professional generator of ideas or not, one must fight relentlessly to have a field in which to develop their genius. If this space does exist, nothing guarantees that the result will be the intended one. With the presumption that inspiration overcomes, one may put all of his/ her vital energy into a promising project only to realize that it was a mirage, which consumed valuable effort. At the end of the day when we hear muses calling at the door, there is nothing to eliminate the possibility that in reality we have only been tricked by a harmful gorgon, who's only intention was to petrify us into a grey state in which we've barely contributed: a state where most people feel comfortable, living with a lack of ideas. These false callings end up consuming our time, which is already so limited in lucid moments.
Not long ago, my acknowledgement of the aforementioned dilemma, truly frustrated me. I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that this parade of harmless things was deviating me so much from my purpose. Even when I thought I'd conquered my obstacles, nothing gave me the certainty that I was going in the right direction. However now, far from troubling myself, I've come to realize that I am not the only one who has had to face these difficulties. I find comfort in the thought that, even when going against the flow, enlightenment has been present in unfavorable and dark conditions throughout history. Enlightenment has manifested itself de facto in the case of many individuals who have biographies plagued with unfortunate situations. People who, because of the simple fact of being human, have had to spend many hours of their existence pondering about trifles that no one remembers anymore.
Surely, Plato had pimples that made him embarrassed, like any adolescent. Perhaps Dante had insomnia problems during a hot summer in Italy, or Victor Hugo had bad breath once and tried to change his diet to disguise the smell (the names of all the genius could be interchangeable but that doesn't matter). If great figures of the past had to spend so much time thinking about trivialities, unavoidably because of their human condition, why not allow ourselves to do the same thing? In effect, just as Picasso thought, it is best to be surprised by inspiration while we are working. However, this inspiration must not shock us when it occurs, interrupting our prolonged meditation on stupidity. For this interruption, if it happens, we must be grateful.

Diatriba

Every Film is a Journey
By Juan Marquez
A trip can be considered as any movement action regardless of the reason, duration or distance it covers. It is only necessary a change in time and space for it to occur. There may be physical paths in between, but that's not a requirement. The journey can also be experienced only through a change in our perception, as with dreams or consumption of substances that alter reality.
So any film could be considered a journey. The first thing that must happen is an event; an event of some importance that generates a change in the everyday world of one or more characters. Something that forces them to act, to move into their world to recover the balance that has just been altered. The shark that is devouring the inhabitants of a small town or the robot from the future that comes to terminate you, these are exaggerated examples that can make you leave your comfort space at any moment. But there are also more realistic cases, such as the loss or finding of something that you can drive you into an adventure that will lead gradually to a world of new sensations and ultimately make you a new person, ready to return to normal life as a completely different person you used to be.
And for true travelers, those who are not content with a brief departure from their homes and prefer to get lost on the road, there is a film genre that focuses exclusively on the trip. Best known as road movie, and as the name implies, is a genre on the road. Generally these films talk about characters who leave home to travel from one point to another, where the goal is not as important as the adventure ahead. Generally these films have an episodic structure, in which the protagonist meet other characters that make them learn new things before reaching their destination, so that ultimately a transformation occurs that allows them to return to the everyday world with new tools to survive.
Film is a journey, for both characters that are part of the fiction as for viewers who are sitting in front of the screen. At the end of a movie something happens inside us that makes us feel different. That's because we move through fiction to experience feelings and overcome obstacles that that the story puts upon the characters. We walked beside the characters a path that maybe we already know, but we want to cross it again for the pleasure it gives us.
