Copywriter / Legal Translator

Rita Aoun, a qualified sworn translator / interpreter, acknowledged Legal Translator by the Lebanese Government in 1998, has highly developed linguistic, teaching skills and professional attitude in dealing with specialized linguistic texts and translations in four languages, English, French, Arabic and Spanish. After graduating from a private leading University in Lebanon, Saint Joseph University, with Higher Studies in translation and BA in Living Languages and Linguistics, Rita gained a teaching certificate from the same University where she had the opportunity to teach translation for two years, adapting students to sight, written, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting techniques.

Rita has pursued her career right from the beginning, back in 1990 up till 1995, in Lebanon, her country of origin, as Head of Translation Department where she was in charge of all subtitling and proofreading in many leading televisions like MTV, LBC, Filmali Productions. In 1998 she was allocated the title of “Sworn translator” accredited by the Lebanese government.

In April 1995, Rita moved to England, where she remained active in her profession, as a freelance, by achieving the translation of many books for “First Class” Company, writing reports and translating documentaries for WNL (World News Link), Missoula, Montana,USA, and for CME (Contact Middle East), UK.

In 1997, Rita joined the College of North West London,CNWL, UK as an Interpreting Lecturer, where she worked as a member of a team of lecturers, teaching the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting – Health Option, a specialized level 4 Interpreting course for bilingual Arabic students who wished to specialize in Medical Interpreting. She was awarded grade 1, the highest to be awarded for outstanding teaching. In addition to her lecturing job, Rita also worked as an Examiner for the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting – English Law, Health and Local Government Options from 1998 until 2002. She was one of the examiners approved by the the Institute of Linguists, the Awarding Body for this Diploma and proved to be a fair, honest yet a discreet examiner. Rita became a British citizen after having lived for eight years in the UK.

In 2003 Rita moved to Dubai, UAE where she worked as a translator for DDIA ( Dubai Development& Investment Authority), Part of Dubai Holding now, achieving the translation of many big projects namely Dubai Land and Dubai Medical City. In addition, she worked also as a freelance translator for Nestle Middle East, and many magazines like Cartier and L’Officiel.

At present, she’s a member of the PR and Creative team in an advertising agency where she holds the position of Arabic Copywriter.
