? I have been working as a professional translator and interpreter since 2000. I hold a Master of Arts in Translation Studies from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I specialized in interpreting and literary translation. I am a certified Portuguese-to-English translator (ATA) and a certified healthcare interpreter (CCHI). For 6.5 years I worked at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, as the supervisor of its Interpreter & Translation Services department, managing over 50 interpreters. I have volunteered on several professional organizations; highlights include Administrator of the Portuguese Language Division of the ATA (with over 2,000 members) and Chair of the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters.
? I have spent extensive and formative years in the United States and Brazil, and I consider myself a native speaker of both Portuguese and English (my first language was English, and I was schooled in Brazil, in Portuguese, for ten years). I am also bicultural -- I believe I understand, empathize and identify with American and Brazilian cultures as fully and deeply as possible. I have lived in all regions of the US (most extensively the east); in Brazil I am mostly familiar with the south.
? In addition to translation and interpreting, I have worked with subtitling, QA, project management, proofing, and narration. Before working in this field I worked as a television/video producer. I have worn many hats throughout my (relatively short) life, but all of them suited me well, and I never accept a project for which I am not prepared.
