Everyone has a right to understand documents that affect them. That's why I help lawyers communicate in plain legal English. 💎
❓ What can I do for you?
✅ I can turn your most challenging Dutch legal texts into plain legal English. I'll use clear, concise, and compelling language that your clients will understand.
✅ If you prefer to write in English, I can ensure you're using all the proper words in all the proper places. You might ask me to "proofread" your document but want me to do whatever's needed to whip it into shape. My combined proof-editing service achieves just that.
✅ I can develop plain-language style guides to ensure consistency in your law firm's communications, from senior partner to legal secretary.
❓ Why hire me?
As a lawyer-linguist, I've worked on both sides of the fence. I understand and talk the same language as my clients – the language of the law.
I practised law for a decade in a bilingual legal system. While working on cross-border insolvencies, I learnt how to navigate other legal systems. This experience formed a natural springboard to my next challenge: specialist legal translation.
I qualified as a Dutch to English translator through the UK Chartered Institute of Linguists and have logged hundreds of CPD hours since.
Nearly all my business comes from repeat clients: law firms, notaries, banks, insurers, pension funds, government bodies, and translation agencies. And the EU Directorate-General for Translation has praised my "understanding of difficult concepts, command of style and register, and clarity of expression".
Briefly put, I know what I'm doing.
❓ What else?
👁 My legal background means I'm intuitively your "extra pair of eyes". Lawyers often thank me for spotting legal issues in their texts.
🤫 Confidentiality is my middle name.
⏰ I'm unfazed by deadlines. If I say I can meet one, I will.
💰 Being a lawyer-linguist doesn't mean I charge more; I just deliver more.
📧 If you value excellent work, email me using the button at the top of this page – I look forward to working with you!
