Experience
Years of experience: 31. Registered at ProZ.com: Jun 2007.
I graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, with a B.A. in linguistics. My baccalaureate studies included a two-year stint at the Department of Foreign Languages (Spanish) at Sophia University (Jochi Daigaku), Tokyo. I went on to receive an M.A. in English from San Francisco State University. As one of the few business translators who can work bi-directionally between Japanese and English, I am active in Northern California as a freelance translator, working on such texts as computer-related documents, contracts, pharmaceutical articles, and medical device manuals. I have also held corporate positions as linguistic programmer for a machine translation project, editor for a business software localization project, and senior translation manager for Web localization. In 1995, I launched my own translator-training program, where I taught students, training teachers, and authoring textbooks. From 2003 to 2007, I served as project and QA manager at Apple Inc. in Silicon Valley. My career includes serving as lecturer of translation and interpretation at San Francisco State University, and has held seminars at the University of California, Berkeley, and in Tokyo.
