Spanish to English: CANALS puerta del cielo
Translation - English HERITAGE
Presently Canals is the second largest settlement of La Costera, but its charm conserves the age old style.
The old town maintains its ceramic tiled chapels, the majority originating from the 17th to 19th century.
Chapels such as Cristo de la salud and El santo Cristo de Alacor, or La torre dels Frares, reveal the value of its two districts.
The tourist should not leave without visiting the parish church, solemn and shrouded in silence.
And most of all, the tower and the oratory… the gems of Canals, and the only surviving remnants of the antique palace of the Borja family.
The oratory houses the interesting “alterpiece of souls” from the 15th and 16th century.
Simple like its monasteries, Canals conquers the visitor´s heart, as it has always done.
Even today the village conserves the charm of those that have lived there.
And so knowing this story one can attribute to Canals the inscription carved in Santa Clara, one of its convents, the words: Heaven´s Gate.
