Source text - English June 9th 2003, Monday The final tests are almost over! And what better way to celebrate that fact than a extreme sports’ weekend? John, Rita’s boyfriend, is going to take part in a mountain biking competition in Vila de Rei and invited us to go and watch. It’s a 24-hour competition and he’s entering it with his college team. But since there are several other extreme activities besides the mountain biking competition, it would be really cool just to enjoy the whole weekend! I’m tired of staying at home and, since I’ve studied almost everything, I think it will actually be good for me to spend a whole weekend in the middle of nowhere, enjoy the nature and trying out some extreme activities! Once, Frank wanted to learn a few stunts on the bike! So, we went with some friends of his to a park where there was a mountain biking track with several difficulty levels! That way, whoever wanted to learn how to control a bike and overcome some obstacles could choose the easier tracks. Edward, a friend of Frank’s, started explaining how Frank should stand on his bike, in order to keep his balance and not to fall flat on his face in the first five yards of the track. So far, nothing too complicated! Frank tried riding along the track and managed to do it without falling down — too many times! He grazed his knees and an arm, but nothing serious! At a certain point, Edward decided to start teaching him some stunts and naturally Frank wanted to give it a go! Edward warned him that he had to be very careful trying those tricks even on the simplest of tracks; otherwise, the result could be somewhat painful!... But Frank, fearlessly, took a chance! When he tried it, a complete disaster occurred. It all started very well. He managed to keep his balance on the bike, managed to lift the front wheel to try a manoeuvre that would help him avoid hitting an obstacle, but he miscalculated the distance and lost his balance, fell over the front of the bike, stuck his face in a puddle of mud, stuck his body all over briers and the bike was a complete wreck! It’s an interesting question, since the patrons of these machines are almost always drivers, none of whom are blind. The answer, according to my former student Bill Tjoa, is that because ATM producers have to make keypads with Braille dots for their walk-up machines anyway, it is cheaper just to make all machines the same way. The alternative, after all, would be to hold two separate inventories and make sure that each machine went to the right destination. If the Braille dots caused trouble for sighted users, the extra expense might be justified. But they do not. Очень интересный вопрос, учитывая то, что этими автоматами пользуются почти исключительно водители автомобилей, которые достаточно хорошо видят. Source text - Russian Село с церковью Воздвижения Креста Господня на речке Самотышке (правый при-ток Чермянки) известно с XVI в. В середине XVIII в. в небольшой усадьбе поручика И.И. Вельяминова была выстроена каменная церковь, сменившая церковь конца XVII в. Усадьба переустраивалась на рубеже ХVIII–ХIХ вв. при князе С.Б. Куракине. Существенные переделки произведены в 1850-е гг. при Н.А. Жеребцове. В советское время усадьбу занимала больница, потом фабрика, затем опять больница. В 1980–1990-е гг. проводилось восстановление главных сооружений у пруда; значительно расширена территория церкви, к небольшому первоначальному объему были пристроены трапезная и колокольня, рядом появилась крестильня.	Translation - English The village on the Samotyshka River (the right branch of the Chermyanka River), with its Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, is known to have existed since the sixteenth century. In the middle of the eighteenth century, in a small manor belonging to Lieutenant I.I. Velyaminov, a stone church was built in the place of an old church which dated back to the end of the seventeenth century. The manor was rebuilt at the end of the eighteenth and start of the nineteenth century in the days of Prince S.B. Kurakin. Major changes were also made in 1850s, in the days of N.A. Zherebtsov. During the Soviet Union period the manor was used as a hospital, then as a factory, and then as a hospital again. During 1980-1990s the main buildings near the pond were under restoration; the church territory was considerably expanded: a refectory and a bell tower were added to the old building, and a baptistery was built nearby.
