Bio
My name is Marie,

I was born and brought up on the French & German border in a multilingual and multicultural environment. My family is French and strictly speaking, we lived in France, but I attended an international school on the other side of the border, in Saarbrücken, Germany, where languages and cultures were mixed as a norm and travels abroad were part of school requirements.

English has always been my favourite language and passion. After a few years of travelling, I have now been residing full time in Ireland and the UK for 7 years.

Written and oral translation, editing and interpreting were part of my education, both at school and in University, on an every-day basis (French, English and German, then Gaelic, all pairs both ways).

I started to have casual jobs as a translator, proof-reader and interpreter as early as secondary school, for individuals or businesses, in all sorts of topics including biography, advertising, marketing, literature, children’s literature, music, education, history, transcription of dissertations etc.

It developed from then and has become my specialised field of competence and the position I have held in the various jobs I have had. I have travelled a lot, learning and practicing various hands-on jobs in education, journalism, tourism, agriculture, horticulture, ecology, ecological building, natural horsemanship… in all of which the position of translator/interpreter or bilingual human resources manager was added to the regular duties of the job, giving me the opportunity to actually experience it in both (or more) languages.

My experience as a “real life” translator and interpreter has given me the ability to adapt comfortably to any given area of work or linguistic field whilst taking into account cultural and human aspects as well as the actual grammatical translation. It has also given me an inclination to develop an interest in the subjects themselves, beyond my task of translator.

I am a passionate translator, fascinated by languages and by how they weave into human interactions, cultures and relationships. I love to discover and perfect a variety of topics, and to continue progressing and broadening my language skills and therefore my understanding of communication.

I have a high work ethos, expect what I do to be of professional quality and to meet the agreed conditions of the contracts (deadline, etc). I work out of love for languages and communication and will therefore treat all jobs with the same rigour, giving them the necessary time and amount of work to achieve quality. For the same reason, I will decline to take on any job that I consider to be beyond my competence, with regards to linguistics or to the expected deadline.
