From poetry to politics and from fashion to fire insurance
About ten years ago, I decided to study linguistics and translation sciences for several purposes, the most romantic of which being that it would allow me to earn a living anywhere in the world. The more professional reason was that I'm simply good at languages, so it felt right for me, through my ongoing education and work experience, to become a good translator.
My job is a continuous learning process, each translation a new challenge.
No translator can claim to be perfect, but aiming at perfection is what makes this - and indeed every other - job worthwhile.
After working at the Dutch translation division of the European Parliament for nearly 2 years, and frequent freelance translations for the European Commission, I have become efficient in working with the sometimes difficult vernacular that is commonly found in these institutions. This, and my professional experience in development cooperation, fair trade, international politics, finance and management combined with my broad general knowledge and interests, make me a very versatile translator.
I am able to grasp the spirit and intent of the source material and then efficiently and faithfully translate them into an easily comprehendible document.
