Source text - English The level of complexity in an analytical method development project increases when the analyte and its impurities are complex chemically and structurally. Complexity can also originate from the available detection technologies that can characterize such molecules. While innovative technologies can be designed to be user friendly, others require expertise and theoretical knowledge. Complex instrumentation adds project uncertainty based on the theoretical considerations underlying the instrumental technique (how it works), its limits of quantitation and detection (how reliably it can tell how much analyte is found in the sample, the expertise and training performance of the project lead and laboratory staff, and the availability of controls and reference standards to ensure the method of analysis is reliable. Formulation also confers complexity as it contains buffer components such as salts and detergents that can interfere with detection.
