English to Turkish: book translation / make a great speech

This unique book will address some of the following questions:
- Why is it that whenever I am asked to speak in public I avoid
the situation at all costs?
- What happens to me when I go to interviews and face a panel
of people? Why do I change from being a normal human being
to a shaking wreck?
- Why does my forthcoming radio interview fi ll me with
dread?
- Why do I feel sick at the thought of speaking at my best
friend ’ s wedding?
These are just some of the questions I have heard as an executive
and voice coach. You are already speaking in different situations
to complete strangers on a daily basis. Anyone can develop these
existing skills to deliver and present a memorable speech.
So what can this book do for you?
Chapters 1 to 3 will explain ways in which you can enhance
your skills and learn new techniques of public speaking for a
variety of occasions. You will gain tips on preparation, planning
and organizing your speech. You will discover how to set clear
objectives and will gain techniques to aid your delivery. You will
begin to breathe correctly and use your voice to gain maximum
impact. As you continue to tread the path of discovery you will
understand how to connect and engage your audience. As your
confi dence grows you will be able to use silence and pauses
effectively. There are also tips on using body language and
gestures to bring your speech to life. For those of you looking to
use a PowerPoint presentation or setting up a video conference,
check out Chapter 4 for some helpful hints.
Chapters 5 to 22 concentrate on specifi c occasions and events,
so you can choose which chapters best suit your needs. Perhaps
you are looking for a suitable speech for a wedding or civil
ceremony? Check out Chapter 5 for some interesting ideas.
I have included some useful tips from a father of the bride (equally
appropriate for the mother, too) who gave an excellent speech
at both his daughters ’ weddings. All those speaking at weddings
can fi nd amusing ideas and quotes, as will those speaking at civil
ceremonies.
Are you speaking at a sporting event or helping to raise funds for
a local club? Chapters 10 and 14 are the places to look for further
inspiration. After dinner speeches can be particularly daunting for
the uninitiated so have a look at Chapter 9 for hints and tips.
You may be asked to speak at a funeral or a retirement party
and you will fi nd helpful quotes and toasts in Chapters 8 and 11
to give these events a special touch. There are specimen speeches
taken from real occasions to encourage you to develop your own
style. Just allow them to be your guide in what I am sure will be an
exciting and rewarding journey.
Speaking in public may not always be at a large gathering or event.
In your daily lives you have to speak to small groups on a variety
of occasions. In today ’ s society, ‘ networking ’ is a real buzz word
as people attend a wide range of groups on a weekly or monthly
basis. My clients have often asked me what they should say to a
complete stranger at a networking event. They also ask about how
to approach a small group who are deep in conversation without
appearing rude. Find out how in Chapter 16.
Facing an interview unprepared can cost you the job. It may not
always be those straight out of college or training who face the
interview panel; very often people are asked to re-apply for their
own jobs. Many people returning to work feel that they have
forgotten skills and lost their confi dence. In Chapter 18 you may
fi nd some of the ideas and examples helpful.
