I am currently an advanced student of japanese. I have studied for 3 years now, and spent 1.5 years studying in Kyoto and Kanazawa, Japan. I studied 1 year intensively (9hrs per week) at Yale University, and then spent a summer studying Japanese at the Princeton in Ishikawa program in Kanazawa (10 hrs per week). Then I spent a year at the Stanford Center for Japanese Studies in Kyoto, studying both japanese (9 hours a week) and also taking university level courses in Japanese history, pop culture, contemporary women's issues, and modern literature. The following summer I interned at a local television/radio broadcast station in Kanazawa, MRO. Though my main tasks were not translation, I was requested to help translate appropriate subtitles for an MRO produced documentary (1.5 hours) that is to be released to educators abroad with japanese audio and english subtitles. At Yale my major is in literature and my focus will be on contemporary japanese literature. I have taken or am taking courses on Japanese literature and contemporary society.
I am looking for experience and work in translation to utilize my japanese skills. I am still a student so I am looking for experience through part-time work until I graduate. I am willing to accept lower wages or smaller tasks in order to gain the benefit of experience. |
