Bio
I was born in the Soviet Union in a family where
foreign languages were of no use but studying English at school was easy for
me. So I entered Nizhny Novgorod Linguistic University and got a diploma of
interpreter/translator. Later I mastered my English working for various
organizations mainly as an interpreter but economic turmoil in the country made
me go to banking. I am proud to say that I was among those first in Nizhny Novgorod,
Russia who was opening western banking for the city. We had to learn fast and my
participation in the Russian-American Bankers Forum was very helpful both
theoretically (Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT) and practically (First
American National Bank, Nashville, TN). To improve my banking skills I got a Graduate
Diploma Economics. My English was part of my job in banking because I was
engaged in operations of bank correspondent accounts in foreign banks, negotiations
with foreign partners, translation of customers’ international trade contracts,
etc., so it was only natural that after retirement I started freelancing in
translation. Now I like translating even more than before because I feel that I
am an investigator rather than a translator. I am very much satisfied with
myself when I am aware that I have done a good job.
Outside of translation I like sports, mainly
soccer, basketball, volleyball, ice-hockey. Since childhood I took interest in
sports, played, learned rules of the games, read newspapers and magazines, watched
matches and competitions on TV and attended sporting events. Now, though not young,
I am a member of a fan group local basketball team and attend home and away
matches of the team.
