I'm a native English speaker but I've been fluent in Spanish for almost 40 years. I've worked as an interpreter for almost 20 years. I am currently certified to interpret in social, medical, and court fields and I am working on my ATA translator certification. When I translate or interpret, I am extremely careful with the nuances and inflections of the language. Not only do I want the receiver to get a good flavor of what is being said, I also want to make sure it is clearly understood. I like to say that interpreters and translators are the face of Spanish to the world, because people rely on our judgment for information about the language. The words we choose will be the words others use.My avocations include fiction and nonfiction writing in English and translation projects in various languages. For example, I like to do Bible translation, because it is extremely demanding but also rewarding. I will also translate a song I like, and try to come up with a singable lyric. More than just words, I want the end product to be enjoyable literature that communicates effectively. Reading my work should be pleasant and well worth your time. |
