Already as a teenager I discovered the fun of learning and working with other languages. So it was obvious that I would go to college to become a translator.
Even though I never actually got a job as a translator, I always found jobs that required language skills.
Also in my personal life, languages play a mayor roll. My husband's native language is French and he speaks it 90% of the time with our boys and with us moving to the US in 2010, I dare to say that I am now fluent in Flemish, French and English.
Simply out of interest, I also took evening classes in Italian while in college and am learning Spanish right now.
