Source text - German “Und mir kam es darauf an, in der Blechtrommel […] diese Schicht (das Kleinbürgertum) in Deutschland, aus der ich ja stamme, die ich gut kenne, (…) zu beschreiben. Diese Kleinbürgerschicht wollte ich darstellen, wie sie auch politisch im Stich geworden lassen ist, von links – zum Beispiel von den Sozialdemokraten, von den Kommunisten – (…); und so wurde diese Schicht eine leichte Beute der Nationalsozialisten. “
Translation - English “And so, in The Tin Drum, it became imperative to me to describe in detail, […] this class (of petite bourgeoisie) with which I am so familiar, and from which I had actually originated in Germany. I wanted to depict the bourgeoisie class as it had been politically abandoned by the left– for example by the Social Democrats, and by the Communists – (…); and so therefore as a result, this class became an easy prey for the National Socialistic Party. “

Language will always be my first love, and I appreciate greatly that I was exposed to foreign languages at a young age. I was fortunate to have lived in Germany in the 1990's as a teenager, with a German family for 3 years in my summer holidays. My passion for art and German appeared at this time. I take a deep and abiding interest in every subject I focus my mind on. Aside from my linguistic pursuits which included time working for the German Department at Cornell College, I studied successfully at the LMU in Munich, and was active in groups that promoted interfaith, and inter-country cooperation (JYM Junior Year in Munich, Wayne State), I stayed a second year in Munich as an art student at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. I have had internships working for web design firms, taught English to German school children, and performed business translation (English to German) while I was a student in Germany. After and over two year stint I had at a German - American car parts company (GETRAG GmbH) due to family misfortune, I learned very quickly to research and translate complex medical reports and jargon into layperson's English. I fell off the face of the working world for a time, while raising my two children who are now teens (which means they have no further use for me unless it is time to eat!). I have translated some medical documents from English to German and from German to English, and the brunt of my knowledge medically is of English and Latin origin. Due to my fluency, extensive time, and studies in Germany, and in German, I am a confident translator of German to English medical documents. I graduated with a major in German, magna cum laude from Wayne State University in Detroit, 2013.
