Source text - Spanish Uno de los principales problemas de la lumbalgia radica en que, como su principal manifestación es el dolor, síntoma que es muy difícil de medir objetivamente, los pacientes lo pueden utilizar como una medida de ganancia secundaria, en especial cuando se encuentran en el grupo de edad laboralmente productiva. Asimismo, no siempre existe una correlación directa entre la intensidad de los síntomas y los hallazgos en los estudios de gabinete. Además, hay una gran variabilidad en los umbrales al dolor entre la población, lo que aumenta el grado de dificultad para la evaluación de cada caso. Varios son los factores relacionados con una mayor frecuencia de aparición de este síndrome, como son: herencia, sobrepeso, trabajo físico extenuante, posturas estáticas, flexiones y torsiones frecuentes, levantamiento de peso, impulsiones y tracciones súbitas, vibraciones, factores psicológicos y psicosociales. Entre los 35 y 55 años de edad, son los hombres quienes la padecen con mayor frecuencia, pero a edades mayores, las mujeres ocupan el primer lugar.
