Check if you can become a British citizen.
There are different ways to apply for British citizenship (or ‘naturalisation’) based on your circumstances.
If you’re eligible in more than one way, you can choose which way to apply.
If you’ve applied for citizenship, you’ll need permission to stay in the UK until you’re granted citizenship. Your permission needs to last until you have had your citizenship ceremony.
If you have indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme, this counts as permission to stay.
The deadline to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for most people was 30 June 2021. If you did not apply to the EU Settlement Scheme by the deadline, you might still be able to apply
If you were born in the UK
You do not automatically get British citizenship if you were born in the UK. It depends on when you were born and your parents’ circumstances. You need to check if you’re a British citizen.
You may be eligible to apply for citizenship if you were born in the UK and are not automatically a British citizen.
If you’re married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen
To apply as the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen, you must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
You’ll also need to have either:
• indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
• settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme
If you do, you’ll be eligible to apply for citizenship immediately.
If you have indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
You can usually apply for ILR after you’ve lived in the UK for 5 years.
To apply for citizenship with ILR, you must usually have lived in the UK for 12 months after getting it.
If you have ‘settled status’ under the EU Settlement Scheme
To apply for citizenship with settled status, you must usually have lived in the UK for 12 months after getting it.
If you have not applied to the EU Settlement Scheme
You might still be able to apply for settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme. You can then use this to apply for citizenship.
The deadline to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme for most people was 30 June 2021. You can still apply if you have ‘reasonable grounds’ for not being able to apply by the deadline.
Other ways you can be eligible
You may be eligible to apply for citizenship if:
• you have a British parent
• you have another type of British nationality
• you have a parent with British overseas territories citizenship
• you’re stateless
• you previously gave up (renounced) your citizenship
• other special circumstances apply to you
• you’re a Chagossian descendant (a direct descendant of someone born in the British Indian Ocean Territory)
If you’re a Commonwealth citizen
You may be eligible to apply for citizenship under the Windrush Scheme if both:
• you or one of your parents arrived in the UK before 1973
• you’ve lived in the UK and not been away from it for more than 2 years
If your parent arrived in the UK before 1973, you must have either:
• been born in the UK
• arrived in the UK before you were 18
•
Some Commonwealth citizens have a ‘right of abode’ in the UK. This means you can live or work in the UK without immigration restrictions. Check if you can apply to prove you have the right of abode in the UK.

إذا كنت متزوجا او في شراكة مدنية مع مواطن/ة بريطاني/ة
للتقديم كزوج او شريك مدني لمواطن/ة بريطاني/ة فيجب ان تكون قد عشت في المملكة المتحدة خلال 3 سنوات الماضية.
وعليك ايضا ان تحوز على أحد الوضعين:
• اذن بقاء لأجل غير مسمى (ILR)
• وضع مستقر أو مستقر مسبقًا بموجب خطة التسوية في الاتحاد الأوروبي
إذا كنت مستوفيا لاحد الشرطين عندها ستكون مؤهلاً للتقديم طلب الجنسية على الفور.
إذا كان لديك اذن بقاء لأجل غير مسمى (ILR)
عادة يمكنك التقديم على طلب اذن بقاء لأجل غير مسمى (ILR) بعد عيشك لمدة 5 سنوات في المملكة المتحدة.
لتقديم طلب الحصول على الجنسية مع اذن بقاء لأجل غير مسمى (ILR) فعادة يجب ان تكون قد عشت في المملكة المتحدة لمدة 12 شهرا بعد حصولك على اذن البقاء لأجل غير مسمى.
ذا كان لديك "وضع مستقر" بموجب خطة التسوية للاتحاد الأوروبي
لتقديم طلب للحصول على الجنسية وانت تملك اذن وصع مستقر فبالعادة عليك ان تكون قد عشت في المملكة المتحدة لمدة 12 بعد الحصول على هذا الاذن.
في حال لم تتقدم بطلب للانضمام الى خطة التسوية في الاتحاد الأوروبي
قد تضل مؤهلا لتقديم طلب على وضع مستقر بموجب خطة التسوية في الاتحاد الاوروبي. ويمكنك حينها ان تستخدم هذا الاذن لتقديم طلب الحصول على الجنسية.
كان الموعد النهائي للتقدم إلى خطة التسوية للاتحاد الأوروبي بالنسبة لمعظم الأشخاص هو 30 حزيران/يونيو 2021. لا يزال بإمكانك التقديم إذا كانت لديك "أسباب معقولة" لعدم قدرتك على التقديم بحلول الموعد النهائي.
طرق اخرى يمكن ان تكون مؤهلا من خلالها
قد تتمكن من التقديم على الجنسية إذا ما:
• كان أحد والديك بريطاني.
• لديك نوع اخر من الجنسية البريطانية.
• لديك أحد الوالدين يحمل جنسية أقاليم ما وراء البحار البريطانية
• ليس لديك اي جنسية
• تخليت سابقًا عن جنسيتك
• تنطبق عليك ظروف خاصة أخرى
• أنت من نسل تشاجوسيان (من سلالة مباشر لشخص ولد في إقليم المحيط الهندي البريطاني)
إذا كنت مواطنًا من رابطة الشعوب البريطانية "كومنولث "
قد تكون مؤهلا للتقديم على الجنسية بموجب برنامج ويندرش إذا:
• انت او أحد والديك وصلتما الى المملكة المتحدة قبل عام 1973
• عشت في المملكة المتحدة ولم تبقً خارجها لأكثر من سنتين
إذا ما وصل أحد والديك الى المملكة المتحدة قبل عام ،1973 فيجب ان تكون مولودًا في المملكة المتحدة أو وصلت إلى المملكة المتحدة قبل بلوغك سن 18.
يتمتع بعض مواطني الكومنولث "بحق الإقامة" في المملكة المتحدة. وهذا يعني أنه يمكنك العيش أو العمل في المملكة المتحدة دون قيود الهجرة.
تحقق مما إذا كان بإمكانك التقدم لإثبات أن لديك حق الإقامة في المملكة المتحدة.
