320. Die Erzählung von dem leicht Aufzugebenden (Succaja-Jātaka)
„Leicht Aufzugebendes gab er nicht auf“
§A. Dies erzählte der Meister, da er im Jetavana verweilte, mit Beziehung auf einen Gutsbesitzer. Dieser wollte nämlich in einem Dorfe eine Schuld einziehen und begab sich deshalb mit seiner Gattin dorthin. Nachdem er sie eingezogen hatte, nahm er einen Wagen [1], stellte ihn mit den Worten: „Ich will ihn später mitnehmen“, in ein Haus und kehrte wieder nach Savatthi zurück. Unterwegs sah er einen Berg. Da sprach seine Frau zu ihm: „Wenn, Herr, dieser Berg von Gold wäre, würdest du mir dann etwas geben?“ Er antwortete: „Wer bist denn du? Ich werde dir nichts geben.“ Sogleich dachte sie: „Hartherzig fürwahr ist er; auch wenn der Berg aus Gold bestände, würde er mir nichts geben“; und sie war betrübt darüber.
Als sie in die Nähe des Jetavana gekommen waren, gingen sie, um Wasser zu trinken, in das Kloster hinein und tranken Wasser. Der Meister aber hatte zur Zeit des Sonnenaufgangs gesehen, dass sie die Fähigkeit besaßen, die Frucht der Bekehrung zu erlangen. Indem er auf ihr Kommen wartete, setzte er sich in der Zelle seines duftenden Hauses nieder, sechsfarbige Buddhastrahlen aussendend. Nachdem jene aber Wasser getrunken, kamen sie herbei, begrüßten den Meister und setzten sich nieder. Der Meister begann eine liebevolle Unterhaltung mit ihnen und fragte: „Wohin waret ihr gegangen?“ Sie antworteten: „Wir waren gegangen, Herr, um eine Schuld von uns einzutreiben.“ Der Meister fragte weiter: „Wie, Laienschwester, verlangt dein Gatte nach deinem Glück und gewährt er dir Hilfe?“ Sie erwiderte: „Herr, ich bin voll Liebe gegen ihn, er aber liebt mich nicht. Als ich heute einen Berg sah und ihn fragte: ‘Wenn dieser Berg von Gold wäre, würdest du mir dann etwas geben?’, antwortete er: ‘Wer bist denn du? Ich werde dir nichts geben.’ So hartherzig ist er.“ Darauf sprach der Meister: „O Laienschwester, so redet er; wenn er sich aber an deine Tugenden erinnert, dann gibt er dir die Herrschaft über alles.“ Als sie ihn baten: „Erzählet, Herr“, erzählte er folgende Begebenheit aus der Vergangenheit.
§B. Als ehedem zu Benares Brahmadatta regierte, war der Bodhisattva dessen alles besorgender Minister. Eines Tages sah der König, wie sein Sohn, der Vizekönig, kam, um ihm seine Aufwartung zu machen. Da dachte er: „Dieser könnte sich gegen mich verfehlen“; er rief ihn herbei und sprach zu ihm: „Mein Sohn, solange ich lebe, darfst du in der Stadt nicht bleiben; wohne anderswo und übernimm nach meinem Tode die Regierung!“ Jener sagte: „Gut“, verabschiedete sich von seinem Vater und verließ mit seiner Lieblingsgattin Benares. Er begab sich in das Grenzland, erbaute sich eine Laubhütte und weilte dort, indem er sich von den Wurzeln und Früchten des Waldes ernährte.
In der Folgezeit starb der König. Als der Vizekönig die Konstellation beobachtete, merkte er, dass der König gestorben sei, und wanderte nach Benares. Unterwegs sah er einen Berg. Da sprach seine Gattin zu ihm: „O Fürst, wenn dieser Berg aus Gold wäre, würdest du mir etwas davon geben?“ Er aber antwortete: „Wer bist du? Ich werde dir nichts geben!“ Da dachte die Frau: „Da ich ihn aus Liebe nicht verlassen konnte, ging ich mit ihm in den Wald und jetzt redet er so; gar hartherzig ist er. Auch wenn er König geworden ist, was wird er mir dann Gutes erweisen?“ Und sie wurde betrübt.
Nachdem er aber in Benares angekommen war, bestieg er den Thron und machte jene zu seiner ersten Gemahlin. Doch erwies er ihr nur diese Ehre, darüber hinaus gab es für sie keine Ehrung und Auszeichnung; er wollte nicht einmal von ihrer Existenz noch etwas wissen. — Da dachte der Bodhisattva: „Diese Fürstin hat als seine Wohltäterin, ohne sein Unglück ihm anzurechnen, im Walde mit ihm gewohnt; er aber bekümmert sich nicht um sie und erfreut sich beständig mit anderen. Ich werde bewirken, dass sie die Herrschaft über alles erhält.“ Eines Tages ging er zu ihr hin, begrüßte sie und sprach: „O Fürstin, wir erhalten von Euch nicht einmal Almosenspeise [2]; warum vernachlässigt Ihr uns so und seid so hartherzig?“ Die Königin erwiderte: „Vater, wenn ich für mich selbst etwas erhielte, würde ich auch dir geben; da ich aber nichts erhalte, was kann ich da geben? Was wird mir auch der König jetzt geben? Als ich unterwegs zu ihm sagte: ‘Wenn dieser Berg aus Gold wäre, würdest du mir dann etwas geben?’, antwortete er: ‘Wer bist du? Ich werde dir nichts geben.’“
Jetzt sagte der Bodhisattva: „Werdet Ihr aber im Stande sein, in Gegenwart des Königs diese Erzählung zu wiederholen?“ „Warum sollte ich es nicht können, Vater?“ „Darum werde ich, wenn ich vor dem Könige stehe, ihn fragen; Ihr sollt es dann sagen.“ „Gut, Vater“, antwortete die Königin.
Als der Bodhisattva dem Könige seine Aufwartung gemacht hatte und vor ihm stand, sprach er zur Königin: „Edle, warum erhalten wir nichts von Euch?“ Sie erwiderte: „Vater, wenn ich etwas erhalte, werde ich auch dir geben. Wird aber der König jetzt mir etwas geben? Als er aus dem Walde zurückkehrte und einen Berg sah, fragte ich ihn: ‘Wenn dies ein Goldberg wäre, würdest du mir etwas geben?’ Er aber antwortete: ‘Wer bist du? Ich werde dir nichts geben.’ So gab er selbst das leicht Aufzugebende nicht auf.“
Um dies zu erläutern, sprach sie folgende erste Strophe:
§1. „Leicht Aufzugebendes gab er nicht auf,
mit Worten nicht einmal schenkt' er den Berg.
Denn warum schenkte, wo er doch nichts preisgab,
er nicht einmal mit Worten mir den Berg [3]?“
Als dies der König hörte, sprach er folgende zweite Strophe:
§2. „Nur was du tun willst, das versprich;
versprich nicht, was du nicht tun würdest.
Wer immer spricht und doch nichts tut,
den lernen bald die Weisen kennen.“
Da dies die Königin vernahm, sprach sie mit gefalteten Händen folgende dritte Strophe:
§3. „Verehrung dir, du Königssohn,
bei Recht und Wahrheit du beharrst.
Obwohl du tief ins Unglück stürztest,
blieb doch dein Herz der Wahrheit Freund.“ —
Als aber der Bodhisattva hörte, wie die Königin so den Vorzug des Königs pries, sprach er, um auch ihre Tugend zu verkünden, folgende vierte Strophe:
§4. „Wer arm sein will, wenn arm der Gatte,
reich und geehrt, wenn reich der Mann,
das ist wohl seine beste Gattin;
die andern lieben nur den Fürsten [4].“
Nach diesen Worten aber fügte der Bodhisattva hinzu: „O Großkönig, diese Frau wohnte zur Zeit, als Ihr im Unglück waret, mit Euch im Walde Gleiches erduldend; es ziemt sich, ihr Ehre zu erweisen.“ Mit diesen Worten pries er die Tugend der Königin. Durch seine Worte erinnerte sich der König an die Tugend der Fürstin und sprach: „Du Weiser, durch deine Worte wurde ich wieder an die Tugend der Königin erinnert.“ Und er übertrug ihr die ganze Herrschaft. Dann fügte er hinzu: „Durch dich wurde ich an die Tugend der Königin erinnert“, und gab auch dem Bodhisattva große Macht.
§C. Nachdem der Meister diese Unterweisung beschlossen und die Wahrheiten verkündigt hatte, verband er das Jātaka mit folgenden Worten (am Ende der Verkündigung der Wahrheiten aber gelangte jenes Ehepaar zur Frucht der Bekehrung): „Damals war der König von Benares dieser Gutsbesitzer, die Königin war diese Laienschwester; der weise Minister aber war ich.“

[3] Der zweite Teil der Strophe ist nicht klar. Der Kommentator sucht sich zu helfen, indem er statt „tass' acajantassa“ liest „tassa cajantassa“, den Sinn also in das Gegenteil verwandelt. Francis übersetzt, wie so oft, so frei, dass der wörtliche Sinn ganz verloren geht.
[4] Auch in dieser Strophe übersetzt Francis sehr ungenau indem er den Unterschied zwischen „sa“ und „ta“ gar nicht beachtet.
Translation - Russian Рассказ о «легко приобретенном»
«Легко полученное он не дает»
Рассказывает учитель, живший в Джетаване, о владельце земель. Он хотел собрать налоги в одной деревне и отправился туда со своей женой. После сбора налогов он оставил свою телегу в одном из домов, чтобы забрать ее позже; и вернулся в Саватти. По дороге он увидел гору. Жена спросила его, если б та гора была из золота, дал бы он ей что-нибудь. Он ответил: «Ты кто, чтоб я тебе что-то давал». Она подумала: «Жестокосерден он, имея золотую гору, он не дал бы мне ничего», она опечалилась.
Когда они приблизились к Джетаване, то вошли в замок воды испить; учитель к этому времени уже успел понаблюдать за восходом солнца. (У них была способность обращения(перемещаться в другие тела)) Он сидел в своем благоухающем доме и ждал их, излучая шестицветные будда-лучи. Те напившись воды пришли к учителю и, поприветствовав, сели. Учитель начал полный любви разговор: «Куда вы ходили?» «Мы ходили собирать налоги» Учитель спросил:«Предоставляет ли твой супруг тебе всё для твоего счастья?» «Я люблю его, а он меня нет, сегодня вот мы видели гору и я спросила его, если бы эта гора была из золота, то дал бы он мне что-то, он ответил, что не дал бы ничего. Такой вот безсердечный он». Учитель сказал: «О женщина, если бы он вспомнил твои добродетели, то дал бы тебе господствовать над всем». И как они его просили, то рассказал он им случай из прошлого.
В правление Бенаресом Брахмадатты был Бодхисаттва у него главным министром. Царь подумал, что его сын поступит не по кону с ним(незаконно). Он позвал его к себе и сказал: «Пока я живу, ты не можешь оставаться в городе, живи как-нибудь, и после моей смерти лишь будешь править». Они попрощались, и его сын с женой покинули Бенарес. Он направился в приграничные земли, построил там шалаш и жил там, питаясь кореньями и фруктами леса.
С течением времени царь умер. Царевич наблюдая за созвездием заметил, что царь умер, и он направился в Бенарес. По дороге он увидел гору и его супруга сказала: «Если бы эта гора была из золота, дал бы ты мне что-то от неё? Он ответил: «Ты кто, чтоб я тебе что-то давал». Она подумала: «Из любви я его не оставила, пошла с ним в лес, а он теперь так говорит, безсердечный. Когда он станет царем, что хорошего он мне сделает?» Она опечалилась. Придя в Бенарес и взойдя на трон, он сделал ее своей первой женой. Это было его единственное действо для нее, единственный знак внимания, более никаких знаков отличия он не делал. Он не хотел ничего знать о ее существовании.-Бодхисаттва подумал: «Царица, как его благодетельница, жила с ним в лесу несмотря на его несчастье; он не безпокоится о ней, но наслаждается всегда с другими. Я поспособствую тому, чтобы она получила господство над всем». Как-то он пришел к ней и обратился: « О царица, мы не получаем от вас подаяний, почему вы пренебрегаете нами, почему вы такие жестокосердные?» «Если у меня что-то будет-я дам тебе, но так как у меня нет ничего, что я могу тебе дать? Что царь мне даст? Я спросила его в дороге как-то, если б эта гора была из золота, дал бы он мне что-нибудь. Он ответил: «Ты кто, чтоб я тебе что-то давал».
Бодхисатва сказал: «Вы сможете повторить этот рассказ в ближайшем будущем? Когда я буду перед царем, то спрошу его об этом, и тогда вы расскажете этот случай». Царица согласилась.
Будучи перед царем Бодхисаттва спросил царицу: «Почему мы не получаем от вас ничего? «Если у меня что-то будет-я дам тебе, но так как у меня нет ничего, что я могу тебе дать? Что царь мне даст? Я спросила его в дороге как-то, если бы та гора была из золота, дал бы он мне что-нибудь. Он ответил: «Ты кто, чтоб я тебе что-то давал». Легко полученное он не дает».
1. Легко полученное он не дает,
На словах даже не дарил,
Почему же он не подарит то, что не его?
Хоть на словах ту гору?
Царь:
2.Что хочешь делать, обещай;
Не обещай, что делать будешь.
Кто говорит и потом не делает, то
Познакомятся с ним мудрые.
Царица:
3.Ты добиваешься, о сын царя,
Почтения и правды;
Хотя ты глубоко несчастен,
Твое сердце остается другом истине.
Слыша как царица хвалила достоинства царя, рассказал Бодхисаттва о ее добродетели:
4.Кто хочет бедным быть, если муж беден,
Богатым и чтимым, когда муж богат,
Только лучшая жена способна на такое.
Другие любят лишь царей.
Бодхисаттва добавил: «Эта женщина жила с тобой когда ты был в несчастье, она переносила все тяготы жизни в лесу как и ты, тебе подобает почтить ее должным образом». Сказав сие он восхвалил добродетель царицы. И вспомнил царь добродетель царицы своей и сказал: «Мудрец, ты помог мне вспомнить о благих деяниях супруги моей». И передал всю власть ей. И сказал Бодхисаттве: «Если б не ты, я б не вспомнил о благих деяниях супруги моей», и дал ему великую силу и власть.
Завершив наставления и провозгласив истину учитель заключил джатаку(в конце провозглашения истины эта супружеская пара достигла (результата обращения)): «Помещик этот был царем Бенареса, царица-его женой, министром был я».
