Source text - Spanish En relación a los hallazgos sobre las características de la relación del nervio maseterino y la arteria maseterina a su paso por la escotadura mandibular encontramos que tomando como referencia al propio nervio, dicha arteria puede realizar su entrada en el músculo masetero anterior o posterior al nervio. Se obtuvo, además, información sobre el recorrido intramuscular de esta arteria, en relación a si cruza o no al nervio maseterino, y si lo realiza por delante o por detrás al mismo. En cuanto a la entrada de estas estructuras vásculo-nerviosas en el músculo masetero hemos hallado que en el 61% de los casos la arteria realiza una entrada anterior en relación al nervio maseterino, y en el 39% de los casos la arteria realiza una entrada posterior en relación nuevamente con el nervio maseterino. En el único caso de dos arterias maseterinas que entran al músculo, éstas se localizaban anterior y posterior respectivamente al nervio maseterino. En la relación que presentan la arteria y el nervio maseterino durante su recorrido intramuscular, encontramos que la arteria maseterina cruza al nervio maseterino en el todos los casos, realizándolo directamente a través de su tronco principal o de sus ramas. Cuando se trata de una única arteria, en el 95% de los casos este cruce se realizaba por delante del nervio, y en el 5% de los casos la arteria o sus ramas cruzan al nervio por detrás. En el caso de existir dos arterias maseterinas, éstas se conectan a través de ramas que pasan por delante del nervio maseterino.
Translation - English Regarding the findings on the characteristics of the relative position of the masseteric nerve and the masseteric artery in its course through the mandibular notch we find that with the nerve itself as a guideline, the entrance of the artery in the masseter muscle is either anterior or posterior in relation to the nerve. We also obtained information on the intramuscular course of this artery, in relation to whether it crosses the masseteric nerve or not, and if it does so in an anterior or posterior position. Regarding the entrance of these vasculonervous structures in the masseter muscle we have found that in 61% of cases the entrance of the artery is anterior to the masseteric nerve, and in 39% of cases it is posterior to the masseteric nerve. In the single case in which two masseteric arteries went into the muscle, their entrance was anterior and posterior to the masseteric nerve. Regarding the relative position of the masseteric artery and nerve during intramuscular course, we find the masseteric artery crosses the masseteric nerve in all cases, directly through its main trunk or its branches. If there is a single artery, in 95% of the cases it crosses anterior to the nerve and in 5% of the cases the artery or its branches are in a posterior position in relation to the nerve when they cross. If there are two masseteric arteries, they connect through the branches anterior to the masseteric nerve.
