GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS
Ques. 1 - What is gestational diabetes? Ans- Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is defined as ‘carbohydrate intolerance with recognition or onset during pregnancy’, irrespective of the treatment with diet or insulin. The importance of GDM is that two generations are at risk of developing diabetes in the future. Women with a history of GDM are at increased risk of future diabetes, predominately type 2 diabetes, as are their children.
Ques. 2 - What causes gestational diabetes?
Ans- Changing hormones and weight gain are part of a healthy pregnancy. But both changes make it hard for the body to keep up with its need for a hormone called insulin. When that happens, your body doesn't get the energy it needs from the food you eat.
A pregnant woman who is not able to increase her insulin secretion to overcome the insulin resistance that occurs even during normal pregnancy develops gestational diabetes. | Translation - Marathi
गरोदरपणातील मधुमेह
प्र. १ - गरोदरपणातील मधुमेह म्हणजे काय?
उ. - गरोदरपणातील मधुमेह (जीडीएम) आहाराच्या अथवा इन्शुलीनच्या उपचारांनंतरही गरोदरपणाच्या सुरुवातीस अथवा दरम्यान आढळून येणारी कर्बोदकांसाठीची असहिष्णुता. जीडीएम अशासाठी महत्त्वाचे आहे की यामुळे दोन पिढ्यांना भविष्यात मधुमेहाचा धोका संभवतो. ज्या स्त्रियांना गरोदरपणातील मधुमेह होतो, त्यांना आणि त्यांच्या मुलांना उत्तरआयुष्यात टाईप २ चा मधुमेह होण्याचा धोका होण्याची शक्यता अधिक असते.
प्र. २ - गरोदरपणातील मधुमेहाची कारणे काय?
उ. - बदलणारी संप्रेरके आणि वाढणारे वजन हे सुदृढ गरोदरपणाचे घटक आहेत. मात्र या दोन्ही बदलांमुळे शरीराच्या इन्शुलीन या संप्रेरकाची गरज भागवण्यात अडथळे येतात. जेव्हा असे होते तेव्हा शरीराला घेतलेल्या आहारातून आवश्यक ती ऊर्जा मिळत नाही.
ज्या गरोदर स्त्रीचे शरीर इन्शुलीनची अधिक निर्मिती करून त्याची वाढती गरज पूर्ण करू शकत नाही, तिला गरोदरपणातील मधुमेह होतो. |
