Spanish to English: Crisis por la abdicación de Eduardo VIII/Crisis of the Abdication of Edward VIII General field: Other Detailed field: History
Translation - English Crisis of the Abdication of Edward VIII
A series of political and legal conflicts which occurred in the British Empire in 1936 are known as the Crisis of Abdication, caused by the intention of King Edward VIII to marry Wallis Simpson, a US socialite who divorced her first husband and was in the process of divorcing for the second time.
The governments of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth of Nations protested in opposition to the marriage. They raised religious, legal, political, and moral objections. As the British Monarch, Edward was the nominal head of the Church of England, which did not permit divorcees to remarry while the former spouse remained alive; by which the most prevalent opinion was that the king could not marry Wallis Simpson and remain on the throne at the same time. Mrs. Simpson was considered a political consort and socially inadequate owing to her failed marriages. The general presumption among the establishment was that she was pursuing an interest in money or position and not love for the king. Despite the opposition, Edward declared that he loved Mrs. Simpson and intended to marry her whether the governments approved of the union or not.
The general resistance to accept Wallis Simpson as Consort of the King refusal of Edward to abandon her led to his abdication in December of 1936. He is the only British Monarch to have voluntarily renounced the throne since the Anglo-Saxon period. He was succeeded by his brother Albert, who took the name of George VI. After his abdication, Edward received the title of Duke of Windsor with the honorary prefix of His Royal Majesty and he married Mrs. Simpson the following year. They remained married until the death of Edward 35 years later.

Spanish to English: Articulo Literario - Cyberpunk/Literary Article - Cyberpunk General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English Cyberpunk - a word of English origin pronounced /'saɪbəʳpʌŋk/—,1 it deals with a sub-genre of science fiction known for its focus on a dystopic future with high technology and a low quality of life and it takes its name from the combination of cybernetic and punk. It mixes advanced science, such as informatics and cybernetics, together with a degree of disintegration or radical change in the social order.
The scenario of the branch of the cyberpunk genre often centers on a conflict between hackers, artificial intelligences, and mega-corporations set in a near future on planet Earth, as opposed to the distant future or panorama of galactic encounters in novels like Isaac Asimov's Foundation or Frank Herbert's Dune. The visions of this future are normally post-industrial dystopias, but they are often marked by an extraordinary cultural foment and the use of technologies in ways never anticipated by their creators ("the street finds its own uses for things"). The atmosphere of the genre normally echoes Film Noir and often uses techniques from detective novels. Among the first exponents of the cyberpunk genre one finds William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Pat Cardigan, Rudy Rucker, and John Shirley. The term cyberpunk was coined in the 1980s and is still in use.

Translation - English Caffeine is an alkaloid from the xanthine group, a crystalline solid, white and having a bitter taste, that acts as a psychoactive drug, slightly dissociative and stimulating in its non-selective antagonist action on the adenosine receptors. Caffeine was discovered in 1819 by the German chemist Friedrich Ferdinand Runge: it was he who coined the term Kaffein, a chemical compound present in coffee, the term which would eventually become cafeína in Spanish. Caffeine also receives other names (guaranine, theine) relative to the plants that it can be extracted from and because it contains other substances that appear in those cases. Guaranine (found in guarana) and L-theanine or theine (found in tea) also contain some additional alkaloids such as the cardiac stimulants theophylline and theobromine and occasionally other chemical compounds such as polyphenols, which can form insoluble complexes with caffeine.
It is consumed by humans primarily in infusions extracted from the fruit of the coffee plant and the leaves of the tea plant, and also in various drinks and foods that contain products derived from the kola nut. Other sources include yerba mate, guarana fruit, and yaupon holly.
In humans, caffeine is a stimulant of the central nervous system which produces a temporary effect of restoring the level of alertness and elimination of sleepiness. Beverages which contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, various non-alcoholic beverages (especially colas) and energy drinks enjoy high popularity. Caffeine is the most consumed psychoactive substance in the world. In North America, 90% of adults consume caffeine every day. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration refers to caffeine as a "food additive Generally Recognized As Safe utilized for multiple purposes".
Caffeine has diuretic properties, if it is administered in sufficient doses to individuals who do not have tolerance to it. Regular consumer, however, develop a strong tolerance to this effect, and studies generally have not been able to demonstrate the general belief that regular consumption of caffeinated beverages contributes significantly to dehydration.

Source text - Spanish Y fue a esa edad... Llegó la poesía
a buscarme. No sé, no sé de dónde
salió, de invierno o río.
No sé cómo ni cuándo,
no, no eran voces, no eran
palabras, ni silencio,
pero desde una calle me llamaba,
desde las ramas de la noche,
de pronto entre los otros,
entre fuegos violentos
o regresando solo,
allí estaba sin rostro
y me tocaba.
Yo no sabía qué decir, mi boca
no sabía
nombrar,
mis ojos eran ciegos,
y algo golpeaba en mi alma,
fiebre o alas perdidas,
y me fui haciendo solo,
descifrando
aquella quemadura,
y escribí la primera línea vaga,
vaga, sin cuerpo, pura
tontería,
pura sabiduría
del que no sabe nada,
y vi de pronto
el cielo
desgranado
y abierto,
planetas,
plantaciones palpitantes,
la sombra perforada,
acribillada
por flechas, fuego y flores,
la noche arrolladora, el universo.
Y yo, mínimo ser,
ebrio del gran vacío
constelado,
a semejanza, a imagen
del misterio,
me sentí parte pura
del abismo,
rodé con las estrellas,
mi corazón se desató en el viento.

to look for me. I don't know, I don't know where
it came from, from winter or river.
I don't know how nor when,
no, they were not voices, they were not
words, nor silence,
but from a street they called me
from the branches of the night,
suddenly among the others,
between raging fires
or returning alone,
it was there without a face
and it touched me.
I didn't know what to say, my mouth
didn't know
to speak,
my eyes were blind,
and something was beating in my soul,
fever or lost wings,
and I went alone,
deciphering
that burn,
and I wrote the first vague line,
vague, without body, pure
stupid,
pure wisdom
of one who knows nothing
and I saw immediately
the sky
cracked
and open,
planets,
pulsing fields,
the perforated shadow,
riddled
with arrows, fire and flowers,
the overwhelming night, the universe.
And I, the smallest being,
drunk on the great starry emptiness,
of similarity, of an image
of the mystery,
I felt a pure part
of the abyss,
I swirled with the stars,
my heart unleashed itself in the wind.
Spanish to English: sufragio universal/universal suffrage General field: Law/Patents Detailed field: Law (general)
sufragio censitario: en el votaban sólo hombres que cumpliesen una serie de requisitos de nivel de instrucción, de renta y de clase social;
Translation - English Universal suffrage consists of the right to vote for the entire adult population of a State, independent of their race, gender, beliefs or social status. Often it refers, in a more concrete form, to the extension of the vote to the adult female population.
In 1789, political power began to be in the hands of presidents and chambers of representatives, making it necessary to regulate its system of election. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, electoral systems were established which began by being very restricted and limited to an elite, until establishing systems of universal recognition of the vote. Although not all countries passed through the same stages and restrictions, nor in the same order, in general terms universal suffrage was established after an evolution passing through the following systems:
census suffrage: in this, only men who fulfill a series of requisites for level of education, income and social class vote;
qualified male suffrage: in this, all men who can read and write can vote;
female suffrage: recognizing the right to vote for women;
suffrage without qualification: in this, it establishes the right to vote for all people, without discrimination regarding education level, including illiterates.
suffrage without racial discrimination: it guarantees the right to vote for everyone, without racial discrimination, nor regarding ethnicity or national origin.
Spanish to English: Merma de Inventario de Mercancía/Shrinkage of Merchandise in Inventory General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Accounting
Translation - English Shrinkage of Merchandise in Inventory
For the system of perpetual inventory, an account is carried of merchandise in inventory in the general ledger. During the accounting period this account shows the merchandise available for sale at any moment. However, merchant companies may experience losses of inventory owing to:
- Thefts from clients, employees or criminals.
- Errors committed in the registry or counting of inventory.
- Random Act.
In such circumstance the physical inventory taken at the end of the accounting period may differ from the quantity that appears in the registries of the inventory.
Normally, the quantity of merchandise available for sale, which indicates the merchandise inventory account balance, is larger than the total merchandise counted during the physical inventory.
The difference between the physical count and the accounting registry is called, when it is negative, inventory shrinkage or inventory deficit.
The registry of the shrinkage will be charged to the cost of sales with credit to the merchandise inventory account.
Once this is done, the accounting registries and the physical inventory will coincide.
Since no system or protective measure can totally eliminate inventory shrinkage, it usually is considered as a normal cost of operations.
If the amount is unusually large, it can be presented separately in the statement. In these cases, shrinkage would be registered in an independent account such as loss by shrinkage of merchandise inventory.
