English to Italian: Bluefin tuna found off Greenland suggest influence of climate change General field: Science Detailed field: Zoology
Source text - English Some colleagues and I got a paper about bluefin tuna published in quite a good scientific journal called Global Change Biology.
We showed that they were all the way up to east Greenland-Iceland in summer of 2012. This location is much farther north than where they usually go to feed in summer (like Bay of Biscay or near Ireland in Europe, or Cape George or PEI in the Maritimes), but the unusually warm conditions that year opened a big sea area for bluefin tuna. The warm water also attracted some of their favorite prey, such as Atlantic mackerel.
This is the first time that bluefin tuna have been reported so far north in Greenland waters, and the journal that published our study liked it so much that they put an image about our work on its cover(!).
A couple weeks ago, a journalist from Voice of Russia UK found out about the story, and asked me to do a radio interview for them. The interview (text and audio) is at this link:

Translating and working with subtitles is, day by day, a challenge and a huge privilege for me: just let me take care of it and you will not regret it.
Subtitling is not a regular translation task. It is a lot more than taking a word, or a phrase, and translating it, to make it flow smoothly into another language. To translate properly is a demanding task, especially when it comes to specific fields, like Law and IT, which are among those I work with: a final judgment may end up being a lot worse if I mistranslate something! But subtitling can possibly be "even worse": it is about taking a concept, seeing through it, and transposing it in other mindset, but keeping it consistence with the video, which one cannot localize. And this has to be done in about 80 characters. And please mind the reading speed, because the viewer needs to be able to read it in a usual timeframe of one or two seconds. A tough challenge indeed! But that is why I really love it: it is a controlled transcreation, a fixed, yet flexible, translation.
I have learned to deal with this "impossible task" through commitment and hard work: I examine extensively each word, each phrase, then I combine it with video, facial expressions, pauses, intensity.
I am first of all a viewer, and I cannot let a sub go without the approval of the stubborn judge ever: myself!
