I hold a Ph.D in Comparative Literature from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA (1994), with language specializations in Estonian, English, French, and german My BA degrees from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) are in Biology and French (1979), and an MA in French Literature (Case Western Reserve University). I pursued studies toward the MD degree at Case Western Reserve University.
Currently I am Professor of Cultural Theory at Tallinn University, Tallinn, Estonia, with my academic career including tenure-track positions at Wesleyan College (Macon, Georgia), Mercer University (Macon, Georgia), and the University of Toronto. Since 2000, I have done free-lance translating from Estonian to English, French to English, French to Estonain, and English to Estonian for a variety of academic and non-academic clienteles, including the translation of life-stories. I am the translator of Estonian Life Stories (Central European University Press, 2009), and She Who Remembers, Survives: Estonian Women`s Post-Soviet Life Stories (Tartu University Press, 2004).
I also regularly edit non-native English (academic dissertations and their summaries. abstracts for academic publications) in the areas of humanities, natural sciences, and medicine. |
