Source text - English This tour is for those people who are interested in the art and culture of Scotland’s biggest city. We will be focussing on the beautiful architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Pollok House, a superb example of a great 18th century ‘country house’, near Glasgow city centre.
Departing Greenock we travel along the River Clyde to Scotland’s second city, Glasgow. Although not the capital, Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and boasts a heritage of industry, import and culture, from ship building to tobacco barons and the galleries and institutes they founded and funded. In 1999 Glasgow was awarded the accolade of UK City of Architecture and Design, reflecting the city’s architectural prowess and design pedigree from The Glasgow Boys to Alexander “Greek” Thompson.
We proceed first to the Hunterian Art Gallery, which houses a replica of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s home – designed by himself in his very unique style, and with original furnishings. After a tour of the Mackintosh house and Art Gallery, we will embark on a panoramic tour of this fascinating city.
We can then enjoy some free time for lunch, which passengers could even take in the prestigious Willow Tea Rooms, designed by Mackintosh himself – or one of the countless fantastic restaurants in Glasgow centre.
Finally, our tour moves to the National Trust for Scotland’s 4-star Pollok House, designed by the great Scottish architect, William Adam, and site of the ancestral home of the Maxwell family for over 6 centuries. Famed for its seminal art collection with works by El Greco, Goya, Murillo and Blake, your tour will focus on life ‘upstairs and downstairs’ as you discover the largest Edwardian Servants’ Quarters of its kind in Scotland, while upstairs we will marvel at the fabulous interiors with original 18th century furnishings, silver ware and ceramic collections, and beautiful, original plaster work.

I’m a professional in the cruise sector and graduated in English and German Specialised Linguistics and Translation. My master’s degree, inspired by my experience with cruise ships, is about the translation of the tourism language. I analyse the characteristics of such specialised language and present my case study of 39 tourism texts which I translated. I follow professional methods and each translation choice is explained.
My mission is to promote the true understanding among the human beings. Speaking different languages is only one of the difficulties affecting communication. Specific situations and cultural differences may require the assistance of an expert of the linguistic services. My academic and professional career gives me the unique opportunity to have a “double” perspective in tourism sector, as a scholar and professional, and combine the scientific approach to the translation with the actual praxis. I consider not only the cultural needs of the target readership but also the brand values of the client and the final function of the texts.
Although my main area of expertise is tourism, I am also interested in other specialised sectors such as law, architecture and economy. The heterogeneous character of tourism language involves me in several lexis and contexts of the human sciences and requires a quite wide general knowledge and a flexible approach.
