When I travel, I am an ambassador -- bridging my world with those I visit. For a while my work consisted of assisting other travelers with understanding the places they visited. In time, I came to understand that our horizons are broadened and we open ourselves to other cultures by, not only understanding their words, but also sharing that understanding with others. Translation, therefore, becomes a way to bringing people together.
I am Portuguese, I am Canadian.
I am European, I am American.
I am a city girl raised in a farm.
As multilingual I can translate the words. But as a translator I can go beyond that and translate the ideas, adapt the meanings, localize the concepts.

Quand je voyage, je me considère une ambassadrice de ma culture dans les pays que je visite. Pendant un certain temps, mon travail consistait aussi à aider les autres voyageurs à mieux comprendre les lieux où ils se trouvaient. J’ai alors compris que pour s’ouvrir à de nouveaux horizons et s’immerger dans les différentes cultures, il faut non seulement comprendre leurs paroles, mais partager leur message et leurs idées. La traduction devient le moyen de rapprocher les peuples.
Je suis portugaise et canadienne.
Je suis européenne et américaine.
Je suis une citadine qui a grandi dans une ferme.
En tant que personne multilingue, je sais traduire les mots. Mais, en tant que traductrice, je vais bien plus loin pour traduire les idées, adapter les concepts, localiser le message.
