To whom it may concern,
I am about as bilingual and bicultural as you can get. Being born in Costa Rica to American parents, I grew up speaking both languages and attending schools and universities in both languages as well. As far back as I can remember, I was translating or interpreting for friends that came to visit us from the USA or for my fellow university students that only had English physiology textbooks and research data to study from.
My degree from the University of Costa Rica has proven invaluable in medical translation because of my courses in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and exercise physiology. I have had the chance to deliver simultaneous interpretation at several Sport and Exercise Science symposiums at the University, and in a more informal arena, I was the simultaneous interpreter for many mission teams that came to our church. I am currently pursuing a medical interpreting certification with the Southern California School of Interpretation.
I also recently took and passed the California Court Interpreter’s written exam. I am now working on taking the oral section. Therefore, I feel very comfortable in the legal arena as well.
I am very detail oriented and have always delivered my projects on time. I like collaborating with others, especially if we can hone each other’s skills to improve the product. I love the nuances of language and the enrichment that it has provided in my own life and seek to be able to convey true translation in all my work.
It would be an honor to become part of your team, so that together we can diminish the language barrier that inhibits true communication. Thank you for your attention.
