Bio
I am an Arabic-English translator with wide-ranging professional experience in many fields of endeavor including journalism, editing, international development/cooperation and aid, language instruction, and gastronomy.

As a generalist, I have translated texts on a wide variety of subjects including but not limited to banking, digital content, contracting/ engineering, aid and development, as well as current events and political analysis.

As a literary translator, two contemporary Arabic novels I translated have been published in English to critical acclaim (Little Mountain, University of Minnesota Press,1988 & Carcanet, 1989, and White Masks, Archipelago Books, 2010); and short stories, essays and excerpts that I have translated have been published by a variety of literary magazines, both online and in print; these include Fikrun wa Fann (Germany), Banipal (UK), and Words Without Borders (USA).

I am also a professional cook, and as such, I read a vast array of gastronomy-related literature in my three native languages -- Arabic, English and French. I am fully conversant with nutritional concepts, botanical terms, and culinary vocabulary and equivalents in my native tongues.

Lastly, I have been a professional English-language editor for many years, mostly but not only in a freelance capacity, and have edited a broad variety of texts covering many different subjects including education, oil and business news, development aid, primary health care, the arts and the environment.
