Source text - Chinese 她在日益破敗的老街上開了一家小店面。
這條老街是純粹的江南水鄉式，平石板鋪就的悠長巷道，對峙著的二層清式木樓，兩邊投影正好合攏來蓋滿街道，如一本老書，合住一段正在收尾的故事。縱向裡細密地伸展出寬僅容兩人並排走的青石卵道，那些卵石被一代又一代人踩到白得圓熟泛光，成了精似的。
老街原本是小鎮的中心，能住在這裡的都算是鎮上比較體面的人，但現在人們紛紛搬到新建的洋式公寓樓裡，少了人氣，老街就迅速顯露頹敗的跡象。原本精心修理的庭院再也沒有色香俱佳的桂菊蘭花，而是加蓋出雞棚樣的小屋，租給越來越多的外地民工，散發出有欠清理的渾濁味道，像一堆陳芝麻爛穀子的往事軟塌塌糾結著，講也講不清，更沒有人關心。臨街的木板門窗不復古樸寧靜的韻味，大多空關著，雨水漬的深處，一長條不規則的黑痕裡，木頭有要傷心腐朽去的架勢，離了這沒有前途的地方。也有些人家反要誇張地重新裝修，換上全套鋁合金門窗，是這條街上的仿金假牙，格外刺眼地嵌在那裡，是高了八度的不和諧音。再往上看，天空盡失昔日和平的浪漫，越來越嚴重的空氣污染，使得那水靈靈的藍天白雲，退縮為人們心裡遙遠的回憶。最不堪的是那些屋簷，當年無限風情地翹著，如今，長著萋萋野草，可不就是長在人頭上，正是破敗的徵象嗎？
Translation - English She opened a small store on an increasingly shabby old street.
The old street represents a pure style of the region south of the Yangtze. A long old lane paved with flat stones on which a double row of the Qing style’s two-storey wooden buildings facing each other, casting shadows precisely on the whole street. Shadows from both sides are closing up, just like closing an old book, in which a story is coming to an end. The closely-woven network of blue cobblestone alleys stretches out, and the width of an alley can only allow two people walk through side by side at a time. Those cobblestones have become round and slippery with glitter as people have been treading on them from one generation to another. They look like they have become elves.
The old street was once the town center. Those who could afford to live here were relatively decent townspeople. However, since the new western style apartment buildings were erected, people have been moving out one after another. Without an atmosphere filled with people, the old street quickly reveals signs of decline. Gardens were once taken care of are now without any colorful and fragrant osmanthus, chrysanthemums and orchids. Instead, the henhouse-like sheds were built for renting to migrant workers. Gardens emit mixed smells, indicating the lack of clean-up. It seems like past trivial matters tangle loosely. It is hard to untangle them, and still, no one cares. The wooden windows and doors to the street frontage have lost their charms of primitive simplicity and tranquility. The emptiness lies behind those closed windows and doors. Deep in the rainwater stains, a dark irregular scar line signifies that the wood is decaying with an air of sadness, having the intention of leaving this unpromising place. Some families rather refurbished their houses exaggeratedly, replacing old doors and windows with new sets of aluminum alloy ones. They look like artificial teeth made with imitation gold, insetting into this street showily. It is an unharmonious chord played with an octave higher tone than it supposed to be. The increasingly severe air pollution has made the clear blue sky and white clouds become bygone memories in people’s minds. The most unbearable fact is that those roof overhangs were once glamorously showing off their curves, but now, there are luxuriant weeds growing on them. Isn’t it like a sign of decline, as if those weeds are growing on people’s heads?
